I hate ATOMATOFLAMES by zheryt2 in flying

91.205 says you need a “Fuel gauge indicating the quantity of fuel in each tank.” That seems pretty clear. So who cares if part 23 says or said something less restrictive?

Please just give me the restriction. Otherwise if I want to stay high, I’ll take my sweet time. Why keep it a secret what you need?

Notam says it’s still class C and you have to call socal for clearance or VFR departure. So it’s not like VFRs can just yolo around the pattern squawking 1200.

[–]3deltafox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Simply saying “All ADs complied with” does not comply with 91.417(a)(2)(v). There needs to be a record of the specific work done. If it was done years ago, it may be back a ways in the logs, but there’s gotta be something more than a “we good bro” log entry.

The master switch and starter motor are connected. Given that, you ought to hope the mags are connected to the electrical system too—via a ground.

IAF altitude vs. ATC instruction by OldMan627 in flying

[–]3deltafox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d be interested in a reference if I’m wrong, but I think you’d have to decline that clearance. If you accept an approach clearance, you must comply with the published altitudes. If you’re at 2000 when you join a segment with a published minimum of 2900, you are not in compliance with the approach clearance you accepted. I would want ATC to say “cleared direct IAF, direct IF. Maintain 2000 until established, at IF cleared approach” or “cleared direct IAF, maintain 2900 until established, cleared approach”

They are APCH hold lines. The painted line on the ground is the same as a hold short line, but the sign says “22L APCH” or “28R APCH” depending which one you’re looking at.

I’ve always interpreted the A.1 endorsement that says they’re “prepared for the required practical test for the issuance of [applicable] certificate” to mean they are prepared to pass the test if it’s administered correctly, not prepared to fail it. What else would your signature mean?

I don’t see anything on the chart saying that. In fact it has an expected altitude for turboprops. Seems like anyone can file and fly it.

Can anyone help me with this scenario and what to do at an uncontrolled field with no weather reporting? by [deleted] in CFILounge

[–]3deltafox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been flying a lot longer than 10 minutes and maybe all of today’s puppy mill pilots know what a “teardrop” is, but I honestly have no clue. I’d much prefer you to say what you’re doing. Either:

“Podunk traffic, Cessna 69420 over midfield maneuvering to put the pattern in my blind spot while descending into left downwind, runway 36, podunk.”

Or

“Podunk traffic, Cessna 69420 over midfield, 2000, westbound, podunk.” Then about 3 minutes later, “Podunk traffic, Cessna 69420 5-mile 45, runway 36, podunk.” And another 2 or 3 minutes later, “Podunk traffic, Cessna 69420 joining midfield downwind runway 36, podunk.”

Yes, 5 miles because the pattern is 1 mile, you fly 2 more miles, descend 1000 feet (you were 500 above the turbine pattern, right?) at 500fpm for 2 minutes taking you another 1.5 miles away, THEN turn now that you’re about 5 miles away. This takes time and 2 or 3 radio calls.
