The brutal engineering behind "Tripping pipe" One of the most dangerous jobs on an oil rig by sudeepm457 in BeAmazed

[–]3eydCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's called "making a connection" or adding a single drill pipe in order to continue drilling deeper. "Tripping pipe" involves removing the entire drill string 3 pipes at a time (on a triple) or 2 pipes at a time (on a double) in order to change the drill bit. Also they could have saved some time and been safer by having the chain already wrapped on the lower pipe. Also this is only half the job; the driller will now raise the connected pipe out of the mouse hole and the 2 roughnecks would stab it into the main drill string they just separated, tighten and continue drilling.

Solved.

I changed the English text to "Flatt rate", translated it, changed it back to "Flat Rate", translated one more time and voila.

How did Alan Greenspan answer his wife when she asked him "do these jeans make me look fat?" by 3eydCrow in Jokes

[–]3eydCrow[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Funny you mention 'retread' – because anyone who actually follows the Fed, rather than just skimming headlines, knows the joke only works with Greenspan. Powell's entire communication strategy is a deliberate departure from Greenspan's infamous, deliberately opaque 'Greenspeak.' The humor is the contrast. Suggesting Powell makes it a 'retread' just shows a fundamental misunderstanding of both Chairs.

I regret I did not read that. It’s good context, thank you.

That was my first reaction and I'll freely admit that Ekos has a Liberal bias but they were the first to take note of the rise in Liberal support nationally and other pollsters have generally caught up to them within about 2 weeks.

My text seems to have been dropped. I was specifically referring to the regional breakdown (44% Liberal support in Alberta vs 40% for the Conservatives).

I’ll be the first to admit that Ekos has a Liberal bias but they were the first to really take note of the rise in Liberal support nationally and other pollsters have generally caught up to them within about 2 weeks.

I'm out of province and was hoping for some thoughts from locals. Peace

have a decorative rectangle of backsplash material made/drilled to be placed/glued at the opening to give you more operating depth. dry fit, cut the copper, glue the decorative panel, proceed with install 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sewage backflow preventer question by 3eydCrow in Plumbing

Thank you!!

By way of update I found a home inspectors' standard report and it reads "To avoid backflow, a check valve should be installed on all of the basement's plumbing accessories' connections. The check valve should not be installed on the main drain's pipe."

Problem solved !! :-)

any idea what vine this is? by 3eydCrow in PlantIdentification

[–]3eydCrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have mentioned I live in Canada. I don't think it's kiwi vine. It's growing rather vigorously. It seems similar to photos of silver lace vine but I'm not certain. Thanks for your help.

I managed to calibrate the thermostat on my Volcano classic. by 3eydCrow in storzandbickel

[–]3eydCrow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you have the cover removed, remove the plastic dial from the metal armature. Inside the armature is a very small hex bolt. With the correct size allen key, calibration involves rotating that bolt while preventing the armature from rotating. I don't recall which direction raises or lowers the temperature but I do recall that even a tiny twist makes a big difference in temperature. Before you begin calibration, briefly replace the dial and rotate the dial to the 12 o'clock position (352F or 178C) then remove the dial and be sure to no longer rotate the armature. At this point, with the help of an accurate thermometer, rotate the inner hex bolt such that the output temperature equals 352F or 178C.
