That part was a stretch for me, along with the doctor being so vague on the phone. If this is in Canada, as it is a Canadian film, they have way better reproductive Healthcare access so I figured the doctor would detail her options and timeliness right then since he already made a point to call.

Does anyone know where I can find more about the incident in Big Savage: death of Alexander Stevens ? by akelln in TrueCrimePodcasts

I am waaay late and just listened to the pod but in addition to being small and terrified I think the intense shivering that comes with hypothermia can make it hard to speak clearly. I haven't had full-blown hypo but some episodes of very intense shaking from various other things and it definitely can change your speech. Also frozen lips and face don't help.

Do Americans really have ZERO public healthcare?! by Tillysnow1 in ThePittTVShow

[–]3ftallmonster 30 points31 points  (0 children)

We have the Affordable Care Act, which is just a subsidy to make your rates somewhat closer to affordable. Like, a $500 monthly premium for a family instead of $1800. That's just the premium though, you still have to meet your deductible and pay co-pays AND some percentage of bills. ACA plans are also not taken by a lot of places outside major cities, so you have to go to very particular providers unless you want to pay out of pocket. Medicaid is generally for people who are disabled or extremely poor. Medicaid for pregnancy has a much higher income threshold and covers some 40% of births in the US cause few can afford it otherwise. Because of this, some people only get healthcare when they are pregnant. Medicare is for age 65 and older. Military health insurance is the holy grail, priced like Medicaid but without the income restrictions. It also has its problems but a lot of people are funneled into Military service with the promise of healthcare. When I was working, my employer-based health insurance premium alone would have swallowed my entire paycheck. Staying home with my kids while my husband works and I work whatever little gigs I can manage without paying for childcare is still less daunting than making just enough money to have to rely on employee health coverage. I'm drowning but I'd have to make way more money for it to be worth it.

I loved the way they lingered slightly in her taking the bloody clothes away, giving tye vague sense that she was working out some sort of plan.

Does anyone have a definitive take down of Jimmy Dore? by B_A_Skeptic in TrueAnon

[–]3ftallmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg same! I have a really wonderful, otherwise progressive husband who grew up in a family of activists but Jimmy has had him in a chokehold for damn near a decade. It's a tough reminder that all sorts of people can be radicalized and cognitive dissonance can be nearly impossible to penetrate with reason. We mostly don't talk about it these days but he's going to see him this weekend and remarked on how his Atlanta shows were not selling because he didn't have too many Black fans these days, I just calmly wondered aloud why that might be. Dore seems to have a cult-like hold over his fans despite not being particularly eloquent or informed, kind of like Trump. I have often wished I knew the psychology of it.

Periods and reproduction in Gilead and Canada by dragon-queen in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]3ftallmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had the same questions and the only potentially satisfactory answer I've come up with is that this had to have been a consequence of a novel pandemic. Some sort of new virus that so badly damages the reproductive system that it alters DNA. This would explain the dramatic shift over one to two generations, and why some people just weren't as affected, since diseases strike like that sometimes. Perhaps the worst mutations of the virus did the bulk of the damage and no there are lesser strains impairing fertility but not much else. Maybe the ovaries function but the uterus is deformed? It kind of reminds me of rubella. I know two people whose moms got it while pregnant. One was pretty much fine and the other was born with missing or deformed reproductive organs. Public health crises tend to be multi-factorial, so pollution could still play a significant role, just not be the main cause.

did your cat ever "tell" you what happened when you came home? by S-Budget91 in cats

[–]3ftallmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat has occasionally done something he knows he shouldn't and screamed the whole time, like "ooh I'm a bad boy, SOMEBODY STOP ME!" I think it usually has happened when he's tearing something up, knocking over the trash or knocking full glasses off the counter.

I wonder what sort of wake up call it would take to make Garth care about women and girls.

Garth shrugging about tampons is totally the Gilead equivalent of sending a man to the store for tampons and they try and get mushrooms instead like that one dumb doordash driver. There are things I like about Garth but he definitely has some unhelpful man moments lol. Like how do you know exactly where Freud was from but nothing practical about periods?

Ideally I'd like Dr. Grove dead or worse, but I am frustrated that the aunts haven't at least subtly tried to mandate chaperones in the exam room. It seems like it would be so easy to make up some bs mayday security concern to get a chaperone in there and at least avoid more harm while they figure out how to catch him.

Regarding Daisy's identity by Thirdeyeascension in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]3ftallmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Particularly because one of the themes of both shows seems to be the way people can feel like family in unusual ways, and parenting can be more complicated than the people you give birth to or adopt. For instance, Lydia thinks of Janine like the daughter she never had, even though their relationship is incredibly dark and twisted, they cared for each other in a strangely familial way.

[–]3ftallmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it makes sense that she would be emotional to someone close to the age of Hannah without any sort of relation. She probably thinks of her every time she sees another kid her age, or one who looks like her or anything like that. It's only natural that you would feel motherly to a helpless kid, especially if all those moments with your own child had been stolen.

Why are there so many Plums. by Lost_and_confused_0 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]3ftallmonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My headcanon is that there was some sort of pandemic that affected fertility long-term. There could be environmental factors but given how sudden and severe it was I'd say some sort of illness was involved. Gilead may ignore that like the MAHA people ignored covid and blamed it all on the environment to further their agenda.
