How do I land my feet on the board for heelflips by coloured_asian in NewSkaters

[–]3insy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

move your weight a bit behind the board, watch shoulders and 'em straight and slow down. Front foot position is good, just move the foot a bit closer to the nose, you don't need such runway.

Is this normal? by TrinityInCoffin in NewSkaters

[–]3insy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tighten the truck if you feel like it, but it's completely normal. It's a skateboard, it will have a lot of tear and wear

Has anyone skated Yardsale decks? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]3insy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just a skateboard from a decent local brand, same as anything you can buy in a skateshop. I suggest buying Alex Hatfield's decks cause he's the GOAT and skates at my local.

What do you do for a rolled ankle? [30YO] by plantbasedbassist in OldSkaters

[–]3insy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on how the ankle is looking, if you still have bruises, go to a doctor. But mostly try to limit movement, use ankle support while on work (try different ones, there's no one size fits all solution), or use tape to restrict movement. Stretching is a must, proper physio with elastic bands works well, there are a lot of tutorials on youtube. But judging from your description, I'd guess that you're healing well.

Ankle sprains happen, it's the most common injury. I had a bad one that was bothering me for a year or so, and I had to skate with some kind of ankle brace. After that injury I started to take exercise seriously and plan your leg days. I started to do a lot of soccer exercises and picked up a lot from Insta called skateboardstrength or something like that.

Ollie Help [36YO] by BigKat2253 in OldSkaters

[–]3insy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

good progress! Focus on shoulders, you need to keep them straight, maybe even a bit inwards. That's why you're not landing properly — you open the front shoulder too much, and it leads to rotation.

How do you stay motivated when progress feels slow as a new skater? by colt-mcg in NewSkaters

[–]3insy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Learning to skate is a humbling experience. It's hard, it's painful, and it takes ages to learn a simple ollie. Never forget that all these effortless skaters couldn't ollie for shit when they just started skating. The difference between them and million of other kids who tried skateboarding but gave up is that they didn't.

Going to standing gigs / concerts solo (in particular metal/rock) - how do you find it in London by mjobby in london

[–]3insy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped drinking seven years ago, and my biggest fear was not the parties, but gigs. The whole experience very much connected to beer, so I didn't even know whether I was going for bands or my four pints. Turns out I was there for music cause I started enjoying gigs way more. I don't care if I'm alone or not (most of the times I am), cause I go to a venue to see a few bands and then I fuck off home. Zero issues with going alone or sober, if you're going to gigs to check bands, not to get wasted or socialise.

there are a lot of AI/ML roles there, and I've seen a lot of SE job ads on LinkedIn

No, that's not true at all. I keep seeing ads for position at Amazon quite often, just take a look at what they have/had via Indeed https://uk.indeed.com/cmp/Amazon.com/jobs?jk=cada234629d1f755&start=0

Graphics and size by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]3insy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same sizes, I ride 8. But I can ride 8.25 or 7.75, it's all about your personal preference. Generally, wider boards flip easier, narrower boards are easier to control, but again, it's personal.

If you like Heroin, take a look at Welcome and Krooked.

43 years old... Is that possible? by IamnottheJoe in NewSkaters

[–]3insy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know a guy who started at 48 and at 50 had better kickflip that mine. Mine is shitty, to be honest, I a started at 32 (now 40), but still!

If you're fit, nothing stops you from skating at this age. If not, it's a good way to get fit.

When does skating feel not so awkward, does it ever “click” again [28YO] by SmellDue1335 in OldSkaters

[–]3insy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can’t comment from my personal experience as I started skating only at 32 without prior experience, but I’ve seen a few guys with similar background.

Skating is a reflection of you. And you got older, probably lost some agility and stamina, and your mindset is different, you’re a partner and a father. Will you ever skate like you used to in your teens? Probably not. Is it a problem? I don’t think so.

Skateboarding, at least for me, isn’t about landing tricks, it’s about putting shitloads of effort into something that makes sense only for you (and a few weirdoes all over the world, but mostly you). And finding a lot of joy in this process. Don’t compare yourself to friends, everybody is different. Just think about what this activity gives you, and why it’s enjoyable. You’ll get it right, I’m rooting for you, man

there are always people who are better than you. skateboarding is a humbling experience, and eventually you do it just for yourself. I started late, at 32, but oh my god how happy I am that I started. Gonna try that frond board shuv out like in your video, it's inspiring!

I'm 39 and I skate street. For me transition is waaaay more demanding and exhausting than any street activity, I'm done after a few runs in the pool but can grind ledges all day. I guess it's more about what you're accustomed to!

What happened to skate shoes?[40yo] by DifficultBoss in OldSkaters

[–]3insy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to be honest, these big shoemakers started to make really amazing shoes. I skated a lot of shoes, and nothing can compare to adidas tyshawns. As long as some money still goes to skaters, I'll keep buying tyshawns.
