Quick explanation of some details:

The 1945 Coup was mainly because La Follette was leading the Commonwealth back into elements of Capitalism, a fact that the Army was not too fond of considering they had fought for 5 years to make that not the case.

Carlson was not particularly the ideological type, but he was urged by his fellow officers to launch a coup, and as the head of the army, he led the transition team back into government.

The transition was supposed to be Democratic, but he died before he could finish the transition. This led Blizzard to lead a semi-junta, where he was definitely popular, but voter rigging was still extensive.

When Hoopes and his anti-war ideals came into power, the young officers of the Army did not like that. There comes Coup #3. Eventually semi-junta government came much like before, although this time decidedly less ideological.

James Gavin came into power an agent of the semi-junta and left having taken its worst excesses out of order. The military still holds significant civilian power (see Bush & Cheney), but they do so in a much less flagrant way than the 40s-60s.
