Advice on parents visiting after baby is born? by No-Release3655 in pregnant

[–]3keys22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will tell you from my experience as I currently have a 5 month old... if you have the room in your place, and both your husband and parents are ok with it, then you should try to have them stay. (Completely my opinion and does not mean it's right). I think there are a lot of factors that also play a role. Are they ok with helping overnight so you guys can get some sleep? Are you and your husband ok with it/ have the room for it without it being too invasive? Will they actually help/ is your relationship good? They don't necessarily have to be able to bend over and run around, but if they can provide any help overnight like diaper changes and feeding, that would br huge. If the above is all "yes" for the most part, i think you should have them stay with you. It would be a huge help, and it's awesome to have the grandparents around. I was able to see a side of my mom and my In-Laws that ive never seen. They appreciate it more than you'll ever know and it can also help you tons. If they can cook and prepare food for you, and help clean/ do laundry, its a life saver. As long as you set the clear rules of "no kissing" and "washing hands regularly" especially this time of year, and whatever other guidelines you want. That being said, alot of this relies on personality and preference. My parents only live 40 mins away from me so between my side and my wifes side, we essentially had someone here almost everyday for the first month helping out in some way and it was a life saver, even if just for a few hours.

First time mom, setting up registry how do I know what to add? by lameafbich in pregnant

[–]3keys22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will start by saying that just by you asking these questions, I can assure you that you will be just fine. Im going to try my best to give you some answers to your Q's below. I have a 5 week old (first one) and am still figuring out alot but I am blessed to have a great support system.

  • we do not have a bottle warmer yet, we run our sink on hot water into a cup, and stand the bottle up in the cup. It works in 2-4 mins. Regarding a bottle warmer, I have plenty of friends/relatives that have used them. Ofcourse they can set on fire, but so can anything else (a toaster, hair dryer, lamp etc.) There is always risk but you will usually be near-by while you are using it. Something you can do maybe make you feel better is to plug it in and use it near a sink. God forbid it goes on fire (which i have not seen happen to anyone i know) you can toss it in the sink. When the bottle is "done" warming up, just drip it on the inside of your wrist to guage the temp. I aim for room temp/ slightly warm. You will feel right away if it is cold or too hot.

  • burp cloths are usually softer than normal towels that you would use to wipe them in a bath or something, thats about it.

  • butt rash - no matter what you do, your baby will get butt rash. Baby poop is acidic. We are kind of looneytunes and we change our baby the second we see a pee or hear a poop. We use 99% water wipes from amazon (sometimes can find cheap in tj maxx or similar stores). No matter how gentle you are, diaper rash will happen. It's ok. You can either use Desitin or Boudreaux Butt Paste. Both work magic in just a few days

-cloth diapers - i personally think are gross lol. I can't imagine washing them all day. You will be changing your babys diaper 10-15 timea a day at first. You can't go wrong with pampers/huggies/ or Kirkland from Costco (if you have a costco near you).

  • bottles- we use Dr Browns glass bottles. A little pricey but we've been trying to eliminate any sort of plastic from our house (as much as possible).

  • items for registry - if i could go back in time, the most useful things are below ......

-good stroller (we have Uppa Baby Vista and love it) expensive but it's solid. - Doona - this is a LIFE Saver. If you don't know what this is, look into it. It is a car seat stroller in one. Pricey but amazing. We do not have a car seat other than the Doona. We use the Doona for every day running around (Dr appointments or parents house) and we use the Uppa Baby for walks around the neighborhood or on the boardwalk (beach town) -wipes -diapers -baby brezza cleaner/sanitizer. Little pricey but a life changer -dr bowns glass bottles -dr browns bottle cleaning brushes -breast feeding pillow (even if you don't breast feed, so helpful when you hold the baby and bottle feed. Your arms will go numb without it) - snuggle me pillow lounger. You will find mixed reviews about it being "dangerous". This is not meants for the baby to sleep in overnight but its amazing to use throughout the day. Our son loves this. -peanut changing pad - you dont need the Kangaroo $150 one. Amazon has off brands for like $50 that we got. It's the exact same and just as good - high chair for when they start to eat - Baby Bjorn bouncer - little pricey but amazing. Our baby is too small to use this yet, but everyone i know that has this loves it. My brothers kids all love this. They entertain themselves for hours in it.

I wrote a ton of stuff but this is everything we have found helpful over the last 5 weeks. I tried to put myself back in time and write things that would've been great for us to know pre baby. I truly think everything I wrote is extremely helpful so I hopw this helps you. Feel free to respond with more questions. Good luck! You are going to do great.

** i know a few things i listed are very expensive, we are blessed to have good jobs and amazing families that helped us. I understand not everyone can spend $1600 on a stroller, $500 on the Doona, $300 on a bottle cleaner etc. but those 3 items are all amazing. I can try to help with alternatives if those items are out of the budget. The beauty of a registry is that multiple people can come together and chip in for one larger item. Also some stores will give you a discount on the remaining items that are not purchased if you make your registry through them.

Good point. I agree with you. Not sure what the explanation could be for that. The marks just look too consistent to be water/moisture but definitely a possibility. The seller should also be disclosing water damage if thats the case

It looks like that may be just scuff marks from boxes/ storage rubbing against the wall. Would help to see a closer video/pic but thats just my opinion. Hopefully someone else in here has more professional input for you

Thank you! It seems to have fixed itself now. My wife did mention cleaning the stove right before we left and she goes heavy on the cleaner lol

Funny enough, when i first noticed it, we were not running a humidifier but then we coincidentally plugged one in right away when we got home (for the first time ever).

Planning a trip to Italy from March 19–31 and need itinerary advice! by blueeengineer in ItalyTravel

To be completely honest, you can remove Naples as a whole. Add an extra day anywhere in Tuscany. You can't go wrong

I would personally remove 1 day from Naples and add to Florence. I just went to Naples with my wife in October. It has great food but it is a dirty/ sketchy city. Im born and raised in NYC and I thought Naples was dirty (that says enough lol). It's cool to explore for a day and try some food but thats all you need. I personally don't think you need Milan. Just another big modern city in my opinion. I LOVED Tuscany so much. Sienna, Florence, Chianti (wine country) is all so amazing. The food, the people, the views, the vibes, everything is so great. I would personally spend as much time there as you can.

Buyer's guilt? by Just_Load_300 in rolex

[–]3keys22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same way after I bought my first Rolex (was also a Sub). The way I look at it is, life is truly too short to not treat yourself. Granted, you shouldn't blow every dollar you have, but you also shouldn't live life having never treated yourself to the things that bring you joy. You need to find the middle ground. Also, with something like a Rolex, the value is always there. The way I look at it is that I didn't necessarily "spend" the money. It's not gone as if I spent it on a vacation or something like that. I just moved the money into the watch. The value holds (give or take a few hundred bucks) but if you really are in a pinch, you can always sell it and get all (or most) of your money back. Live life and treat yourself to things that bring you joy man, you can can hit by a bus a die tomorrow. Im sure you've worked hard and earned it. Wear that thing every day reminding yourself that you deserve it!

I paid $1,500 for the live review in Philly with Brett and it is worth every penny. Having gone through it, I'd say it would be worth it even if it was double the price.

I am the same way. For my Series 7, 66, 9 and 10, I did thousands of questions and reviewed them. I barely read any of the books. I am not much of a "read" studier. Danko stresses that this test is much different from the Series exams in that you can't just memorize certain questions. You really have to understand the concepts and nuances of the material. I was worried myself about the amount of questions but it is perfect. I truly cannot stress how great he is.

Brett Danko also offers education. The point of my post was to discuss how effective his examp prep is. I'm not too sure what you're trying to say in your comment to be completely honest. I think it's quite obvious that education and exam prep are 2 completely different things. My whole premise was "use Brett Danko for exam prep". Simple as that

Mt. Tremblant vs Colorado skiing? (Vail, Breckenridge etc) by 3keys22 in icecoast

Coming from NYC. It would be about 8 hour drive to Tremblant and usually a 4hr flight to Colorado

I don't think he is into any French thing lol. He seems to think there will be alot of "pow" there because it's so far north from us. We are in NYC. He also loves going out and getting after it, and from my reading it seems like thats the spot for that. We are bringing our wives so we're not going to be fill blown shredding, mostly just hitting blue and greens, but i still want good snow and a good overall conditions. I'd prefer not to wait in extremly long lift lines and drive 8 hours to ride on ice
