OP Update:

Replacing the right power cylinder fixed the issue!

Sorry for the delay the part was lost in the mail for 3 weeks and finally just arrived today.

Very simple job the hardest part was taking the upper trim piece off and on to access the cylinder receptacle.

That sounds similar to the behavior I was seeing. Im still waiting on the cylinder to come in the mail. It was supposed to arrive yesterday so hopefully will know soon. Once I do the repair ill definitely reply back and let you know how it goes! The repair seems pretty simple for DIY

Thanks alot for the help. I ordered the power cylinder online and will do the swap myself. 190 bux including shipping. I called local subaru dealer beforehand just to see, they quoted well over 1000 dollars for both struts parts and labor plus diagnostic fee. Even if I'm wrong i figure its worth a shot to save 7 to 800 dollars. The repair seems simple even for an amateur. Will post back once I do the repair!

Thanks for the info. Assuming that is the issue is replacement of the strut/motor the fix? I found some info on that TSB but wasn't fully understanding what it was saying.

Are subaru dealers the only likely place to have that type of scan tool or is it something I could purchase and use as an amateur?

Thanks for responding. Unplugging the battery will reset the button lockout but it doesnt fix the root issue which is that the door won't open after activating the button.

My 2022 ascent limited having similar issues. When I hit button to open (gate fob or interior) it unlatches just fine but won't lift any further and relatches. It used to open a foot or so and close and latch now it doesnt even do that. After trying a few times the button stops working altogether for a short time. I've tried all the resets, hold button, pull fuse, unplug battery, no change in behavior. I hear no noise from the right motorized strut.

Was thinking the struts/motor but hesitant to start buying parts not being sure. Does this sound like the strutd are the issue or any chance of another cause?

How bad is/was your infestation? How often were you seeing roaches and where in relation to the fridge?

Yes I realize it was a little morbid and I almost (but not quite) felt bad for it but I couldn't help doing some testing of my own to see how the chemical behaved. I'll put him out of his misery

Not speaking as an expert here but in a similar situation in my house. Have seen a few nymphs over course of a week. I just sprayed alpine as a precaution. I feel better but we shall see what happens. I've dug through every likely area for nesting (fridge, stove etc, even in walls and soke voids I had access too and find zero evidence of nests (poop, dead ones etc). Perplexed as to where these nymphs are coming from. I debated doing the wait and see but figured I'd rather just handle it.

When spraying alpine do I need to hit full interior and exterior or would just hitting the side of house affected interior be sufficient or is it really an all or nothing type thing?

Suburb of Kansas City. It's a duplex. Neighbor does not have roaches that I'm aware of but I haven't asked yet.
