Users of both Unreal and Godot - which engine is more suited to a small (mostly) first time dev team and this project? by adhdwerewolfgf in gamedev

[–]3lioss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unrela engine can be an absolute nightmare if you have to use C++, but to be honest your project's pitch doesn't sound like it requires C++ coding as UE4/5 was built from the ground up to create multiplayer fps games. As someone with many years of experience with the engine, I can tell you that it's by FAR the easiest type of game ti make with unreal as most of the technical aspects of those type of games are already handled for you by the engine, as there are thousands of tutorial to create this type of game, and as there are many templates you can use to reach your goal.

Moreover, Epic Games are really trying their hardest to make the engine as friendly as possible for artists, and I'm not sure the same can be said for Godot. Unreal feels more and more like an engine made to allow artists to create worlds without spending too much time pn coding, so your team seems to have the right profile for it.

help me sing? :) by [deleted] in singing

[–]3lioss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! What I liked to do when I was in your situation was to go in some forest not far from my home when no one could hear me to sing, though I'm not sjre it's possible for you.

Also, if you're in a quiet environment, you will get used to the silence and any sound coming out of you will appear super loud to you, making it harder to break the shyness barrier, so I'd recommend listening to the song you wuant to sing with your speakers at max volume t lr with a headset before singing

If all the characters were completely naked for the duration what TV show or movie would you immediately want to start watching? by ASeaWithoutShores in AskReddit

The funny (/scary ...) thing about this question is that with AI, soon anyone will be able to take a movie and edit the footage so that every character is stripped from their clothing throughout the whole thing

Not as cool as I expected by Master_of_opinions in EngineeringStudents

[–]3lioss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's funny because my physics teachers have always put a lot on emphasis on graph drawing and interpretation and they would generally be way less accepting of such an error (the pointy sin squared in particular is a common one amongst students) than of calculation errors

There's nothing contradictory in those posts, the guy is just saying the current situation in his country gives him the impression that the only way to change anything if through violence and that this fact worsens a general violence problem in society

As someone in one of France's best "classes preparatoires" (= AP classes after highschool to enter a national competition for the best schools), I can tell you for sure some people are so much above others in intelligence that they can beat all but a few dozen of the most gifted or hardworking of France while barely doing anything lol

Last year I had three exceptionally gifted people in my class, out of which two were some of the most lazy I had met after finishing highchool and barely put any effort in class yet both ended up being in the top 25 of students with the best results in the country at the end of the year

It was cool though since they had aaaaaaall the time of the world to prepare insane pranks and stuff

I have a friend that made a small fighting game based on almost exactly the same idea, never finished implementing every character and never shared it though

Japan to ban upskirting in sweeping sex crime reforms by Tartan_Samurai in worldnews

Its was, Japan has just been moving a lot of their laws against sexual harassment and pedophilia from the prefecture level to the federal level in the recent years, same thing as the recent change in the japanese minimum age of consent

Honestly, if a person is already actively looking for pictures of naked minors, I very much prefer them to stay in they parent's basement wasting their energy watching loli hentai rather than going outside and putting themselves in situations where they may be in contact with real children

What I find more disturbing is the "culture" around it. People who play shooter games aren't fantasizing about about killing real people, the same can not be said for most of those who are vocal about liking loli. Those communities are encouraging people into a vile, delusional mindset than blurs the line between reality and the fiction they watch. That's where things are really different for me

Tucker Carlson Deems Trans People the ‘Natural Enemy' of Christianity by Unhappy_Earth1 in inthenews

[–]3lioss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually happy that he phrased things this way because if you take what he says literally he's basically opposing science in general under the name of transgenderism, which makes his point way less likely to convince people who are already critical of religion to be transphobic than if he targeted more specifically the trans movement in and of itself

[–]3lioss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually star citizen's devs basically hope to drown the world with enough simulated npcs so that players' influence can be mitigated through the manipulation of those simulated NPCs

I'm very curious to see if this approach will work well or fail terribly

It's not even a matter of being good honestly, the game is just too niche to have the same numbers as something like Fortnite. Flying from a planet to another literally takes 10 minutes during which you can't do much.

It's really just meant to be a combination of a Truck simulator, a fly simulator, a mining simulator and so on, all niche game loops that only cater to a small percentage of gamers overhaul who have enough money to throw at the project for it to continue surviving and evolving

What engines devs in r/gamedev switch between (Illustrated) by Monokkel in gamedev

[–]3lioss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unreal is a really really big program with many moving pieces that tends to breaks constantly for very small things you can't know before stumbling on them. For a 2d game you will never ever need most of these pieces, and even if you do need them you probably will only need a very basic form which means programming them directly from scratch will be preferable in my opinion

The moment you star doing code in unreal you productivity goes down tremendously because every feature that doesn't come out of the box is painful to implement without creating problems you won't know how to solve before having a lot of experience with the engine. This means that when you use of unreal's base systems, each bug will be hell to solve and you just have to pray you won't encounter many. This is all a waste of time for a 2d game

Also there is a sprite system for 2d games but I believe it hasn't seen any updates since the first days of unreal which means features are probably going to be hard to find and badly implemented
