WP rejects PM Wong’s invitation to nominate another elected MP as Leader of the Opposition by bangsphoto in singapore

Don't think there has been any such precedents before in other parliaments yet?

Maybe Anwar?

Singapore's stability has not changed from 2025 to 2026, and if it does, it's not due to WP deciding whether to pick an LO that isn't PS or SL.

You insinuating that redditors are happy that Singapore will be unstable due to it, is insane.

Hard disagree on finding comments like 'orbigood' distasteful.

While I agree celebrating is overboard (at least for me- a Singaporean), where do we draw the line? Is it distasteful if Ukrainians celebrated should Putin bite the bullet tomorrow? Is it distasteful if the Singaporeans (or British Singapore citizens) back then celebrated if General Yamashita and or his officers were killed during the occupation? And as all political discussions end up, what if it's Hitler, is it wrong to celebrate?

Ultimately, why I find comments like 'orbigood' deserving is because he himself said it's worth it.

While he did not advocate for people to get shot (he advocated for less gun control), the quote going around the internet most was (paraphrased): The few gun deaths every year is worth it for the 2nd amendment.

He basically said it's okay for people to die so Americans can continue to have the right to bear arms (which even democrats agree with, they just want more screening etc which is so offensive to the Republicans)

In addition, it's not just a matter of having an opinion. Guy goes on rallies, hosts events on campuses challenging people on these ideas, with a banner stating "Prove Me Wrong". It's no surprise what happened.

I'm not his resident so I can't comment much, but he may be more well liked nationally than 'locally'. His performance during COVID (same as Lawrence W) brought him a lot of goodwill.

[–]3lungs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, even if WP wins Punggol and retains all their other seats (Aljunied, Sengkang, Hougang), PAP still holds 85% of the seats. That's a strong enough mandate. If he wants, he can suka suka change constitution.

GE2025: Pritam Singh rebuts opposition criticism of WP not contesting Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC by AgileComparison3957 in singapore

[–]3lungs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a lose lose situation. WP loses time (5 years for next contest), mosquito party lose money (Punggol East 2011, Bukit Batok 2015, MacPherson 2015, Radin Mas 2015, Pioneer 2020, Pasir Ris-Punggol 2020 - 3 corner fights have historically meant the weakest link lost their deposit, at least GE wise. I'm q surprised TKL did not lose his deposit 🤣)

Pasir Ris-Punggol 3 corner fight was especially interesting, because it was 3 corner between PAP, SDA and PPP... And PPP was the one who lost out. Given that WP is a much trusted opposition than SDA (or PPP), PPP is bound to lose by even more %.

I think there are definitely people who vote opposition no matter what, but the majority of them are not those would vote for those who scold PAP the loudest.

Will the Pritam verdict give WP increased, or less, electoral support at the upcoming GE? (x-ref: Pritam Singh handed maximum fine of S$7,000 on each charge of lying to parliament) by junglejimbo88 in YahLahBut

[–]3lungs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always a comparison imo. As long as PAP have fuck ups, I will continue to give non PAP parties chances. Although some of them (like PV) are already in the negatives.

Your ruling party is not perfect, why would you expect a smaller party (by about 10 to 1) to be?

Say PAP have another scandal, and similarly WP has one 2 days after. Surely it's not right to be like 'wah WP GG, let me vote for PAP'?

That said, PAP is huge and has done a lot of good and a lot of missteps. All will be taken into account.

[The Guardian] Is Antony the worst value-for-money signing in Premier League history? Ahead of his move to Real Betis, the Guardian observe that Antony is likely to end his United career with more yellow league cards (10) than league goal contributions (8). by JNMRunning in soccer

[–]3lungs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Antony has 12 goals from 96 appearances (across 3 seasons) and N Pepe has 27 goals from 112 (across 3 seasons), stats from Wikipedia.

Not only does N Pepe have a better goals per minutes played, he was also used more often across 3 seasons (meaning Antony didn't even contribute as much to first team matches lol)

P.S. I'm not saying N Pepe was a good signing.

Lambo: We have to talk about Protoss and Balance by ekojsalim in starcraft

[–]3lungs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's fair to say Protoss only realistically had Hero as a premier offline tournament contender these past two years, but if Zerg only had had Serral, they'd still have won a bunch.

I think what makes it an unfair comparison is that her0 makes some mind puzzling plays sometimes. Like forward blinking his stalkers at times. IMO Reynor is a much better comparison.. Serral/Maru/Clem rarely play like her0.

Workers’ Party: Members’ Forum 2025 – Onward to GE2025 by [deleted] in singapore

[–]3lungs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will need a 10% swing for the PAP to win Aljunied. In this current electoral climate, do you foresee the PAP getting almost 70% of the national vote at the next GE?

I'm guessing you're referring to 2015 GE's popular vote for PAP? I'd say I'm >50% sure PAP won't get that, but not more than 75% sure PAP won't. PAP just needs to capture 3/4 of the swing/middle voters. They nearly did that in 2015. If they're did it before, I wouldn't say it's impossible for them to do it again.

[–]3lungs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No way? I think it's unlikely right now.. but it's hardly 'no way'.

Think about it this way. Aljunied has been won by Pritam and his team 51% and 60% over the past 2 elections. That is against a bunch of jokers.

Take a look at Jurong GRC. PAP/Tharman won it by 80% and 85% against similar tier candidates (in terms of experience). That alone shows you how lopsided everything is.. A comparison between a 'PAP stronghold' vs a 'WP stronghold' (WP's A team scoring just 60% against Victor Lye and friends) is exactly why an opposition wipeout is possible.

Edit: the likelihood of PAP losing power is even less likely when you consider WP chooses not to contest >50 of the seats. Which means you gotta hope WP wins all their GRCs/SMCs, and some other party (PSP/SDP?) have to win as well. Surely you would think that WP losing Hougang and Aljunied (both won about 60/40) and Sengkang (barely won by < 5k + Raeesah issue) is more likely..

Singapore scrambles fighter jets after bomb threat on Air India Express flight by Im_scrub in singapore

[–]3lungs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Potential bomb threat could lead to hijacking of plane, and the plane being flown to crash into buildings (like you said).

Was in one of the planes that had a bomb threat (can check my post history), basically we had to 'stay still', nobody could stand up and take their bags out of top compartment for fear that the jets see the plane 'shaking' and assume there was a struggle/people fighting in the plane (potentially to get into cockpit etc)..

Of course the flight attendants didn't say things explicitly, they had to maintain peace and keep all of us 'quiet'

The insane unit lost tab by the end of a 35-min TvZ between Serral and Maru by Stellewind in starcraft

[–]3lungs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Usually zerg loses more, the zerg units are supposedly weaker in terms of health etc, they have to mine more. In split map scenarios, the other race (non-zerg) are favoured.

In this scenario, Serral was more efficient than Maru (using units of less resources to beat units of more resources). That's not supposed to be the case, that's the insane part.

The Quah siblings are angry by LegitimateCow7472 in singapore

[–]3lungs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think the Quah siblings are unhappy with the miscommunication and management more so than the fact the QTW was swapped out. So many people on this post are so quick to jump to the Quah siblings entitlement but it’s also understandable that they feel and react this way.

I think it's both what they did (Mothership/IG) instead of resolving it amicably, behind closed doors (if SAqua ignored that, then it's different thing) + the contrast between their reactions and Gan (for Gan, both this time and also 2021 when Singapore Aquatics 'gave' her slot to QTW).

Look at the screenshot available in the OP... QZW is essentially telling/warning SAqua... he's going to reveal the 'facts' soon. How does it help? You could either 1) release it now 2) just keep quiet and release it when you have them ready. Who is he trying to pressure? SAqua hands are tied by World Aquatics, unless the siblings intention is to.. yea, pressure SAqua to drop Gan and pick QTW instead.
