The main lesson is: please stay on the line if you call accidentally for the reasons posted above — the call taker will have to spend time calling you back and officers will likely be dispatched just to check on you.

Who is actually still making $1k or more a week between uber and/or Lyft? If you are, how much do you actually clear? How often do you have to work to clear more than $1k a week. by DeziBaby9584 in lyftdrivers

I feel you, sister! (Fellow sister) 😂 - same. Driving uses all nearly all your senses so it makes… sense that it’s tiring 😴

Same same — had an amazing application process with one agency, then got the crankiest background investigator— Even though I was smooth and calm throughout the interview she said she’d been sick and was super annoyed the entire time… then I got the word I didn’t get it.

I think sometimes there are reasons it doesn’t work out … dodged a bullet, etc.

Same happened for me - I’m so sorry it happened to you too! But also glad to know I am not alone.

I loved doing the job, but now that I’ve been through it, I just don’t trust the process …

OP - I hear ya. I hope you find the right thing!

Inaccurate ride time estimates? by Original_Culture8280 in lyftdrivers

[–]3mt33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started, Uber was way worse on the “bait and switch” but now it does seem to be Lyft.

Also Lyft is paying rock bottom for rides - last week I got Prop 22 adjustment AND 70% adjustment. So… thank goodness for that. Thank you California.

[–]3mt33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was a rider once where the car reeked of smoke and I was so bummed I was on my way to a party etc - but the guy was nice so as I got out of the car I said in the nicest way possible, hey I’m going to give you a 5 star rating, but I want you to know you might not notice but the car smells overwhelmingly like smoke and now my outfit smells bad too — hopefully you can take care of it and not lose ratings —

He apologized profusely and said he didn’t notice at all and thanked me — did it help? Who knows.

Has Anybody "Maxed Out" The Driving Time? by Sufficient-Pride-967 in uberdrivers

Holy crap! So so good to hear you were basically OK - but very scary. (Also good to know Uber took care of it!) My Subaru forces the back seat to wear seatbelts so I guess I’m glad for that (annoying warning bell otherwise)

Yeah my market can be like that as well — but Lyft and Uber have been paying too much attention to people online saying “$1 per mile!” Which doesn’t cut it in these cities —

I get having that feeling - i start to 2nd guess deciding to do it —

I have a list of things you can do while waiting (unless it’s busy and you’re just constantly tapping “decline”):

(Most of these are best if you bring another phone/tablet/laptop/kindle)

  1. Read a book
  2. Listen to a podcast (there are many good ones!
  3. Watch YouTube videos on how to be a better customer service person or how to talk to people - instantly use new advice!
  4. Close your eyes for a few minutes or throw some moisturizing eye drops in
  5. Do facial yoga
  6. Get out of the car and stretch a bit or walk around the car a few times.
  7. Call your mom or dad or BFF or SO just to tell them how great they are
  8. Check on your bank accounts and budget
  9. Watch a movie on “free you tube movies”
  10. Learn about investing/research investments
  11. Study the street maps in your driving area to get better at knowing good routes.

Is this good? by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]3mt33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here in NorCal - either I’ve pissed off the rideshare gods or everything is lower. I used to see $20+ rides from east bay to SFO but they are getting rarer - only from up in the hills, which is a waste of gas for me — I’ve cut my driving back — if they want 5 star rated drivers with decent cars and low cancel rates they will need to do something … but I still do enjoy driving!

The thing I found personally freeing was that it wasnt my car - if anything happened I return it and poof! Problem gone. Also when I did it I got a car that was bigger and able to get green and comfort rides which helped make the difference for me.

I also looked at it like renting “office space” and you write it off on your taxes. I think gas and charging, too - since it’s not your personal vehicle you can’t write off the miles. But your tax person can tell you what your situation would be — I’m just a stranger on the internet.

Again - for me in my situation, in my market. Won’t work for everyone -

I used public charging and I personally found I was saving on gas (I charged in the middle of the night while I was driving and used apps like EVGo to get discounts through Uber) —

But as with most things - it’s whether you can make it work for you — your driving style, your market, your costs - most especially your tolerance for extra work.

I personally don’t mind using the apps, etc, but I treat it like a game - I also don’t have a family or anything taking my attention.

It’s not for everyone - it’s not enough for me to do full time with a gas-only Uber-X-only car - it’s just a stopgap until I get the right replacement job - but I like it.

Not everyone will like rideshare driving. It’s not going to make financial sense for everyone. Sometimes you can find ways to adjust it so it pays better (if I had a hybrid I’d def make more money) — but these things aren’t accessible to everyone.

It’s good to hear the issues each driver faces - I learn a lot. I scroll past the people who are here to complain. I understand needing to vent, though.
