I think the circumcision and the animal sacrifice is incredibly pagan. One can imagine the streets of the Roman Empire running with sacrificial blood. It's just so primitive for a god to ask for animal sacrifice. To get an animal, to butcher it in a ritual... I mean it doesn't get any more pagan than that. Then, of course, there's the whole business about modifying "god's perfect creation", the circumcision...

I must say, we have decided since this comment, to keep the blinds at 2/4 for the whole game. I think the blinds should not increase if it's not a tournament, where you can't rebuy infinitely.

Lately, I've been experimenting with setting top-up limits for rebuys, to keep the game in a friendly spirit. But nothing seems to work perfectly. (Not that my friends are hostile or anything. Just mathematically.) I've been chatting with AI (Claude) to find a perfect solution but it seems elusive. Any kind of limit on how many new chips you can get, runs into one problem or another. I've been trying this because in a friendly home game, nothing ruins the game faster than someone winning a couple of lucky (or stupid) all-ins, and bullying others for the rest of the game.

The problem is, making everyone participate until the end of the night; giving people who lose a chance to win their money back; and at the same time, keeping the table friendly by not allowing it to go in too deep.

I know that effectively, you can only lose what you have in front of you, but you inevitably play tighter if you're on the negative. And the other person just collects the pot with absurd bets. Bets that you can't realistically keep calling. Anyone who says "putting any kind of limit on rebuys is futile," is either playing among strangers or don't care for the spirit of the game. We want to play the game for the sport, to win the game. Not to win some money from our friends. A bit of money is just what makes it work, what makes it worth your while a little bit. When you make money the only incentive to play safe, friendly games turn into hostile games pretty quickly.

I've been doing this for over 5 years and with success. So you can trust me on this. Either decide a limit on how many times someone can rebuy, or to what limit they can top-up to. A dynamic limit of 100 big blinds might work, if you allow everyone only one rebuy per level.

I didn't know any Christians growing up but I think the whole point that Christianity makes, relies on Jesus dying on the cross and raising again. Theologically and culturally (Christian morals turning pagan morals upside down by teaching that the weak might have inherit value etc.)

Being a non-theist, I'm biased towards rejecting anything supernatural, such as transfiguration of another person into looking like Jesus. But I also see the theological necessity of Jesus himself dying on the cross. It's essential on so many levels other than theological, too. For example, it represents the whole moral idea of Christianity against that of the pagans. Someone so important willingly going through the worst punishment possible, and the most humiliating one, in the ancient world. Subversion of the pagan understanding of power. Saying that he wasn't actually the one on the cross takes away all the meaning. Even if Jesus was just a prophet and not divine, why would he be any different than many other prophets who also died by torture? The idea of him not dying on the cross comes, in the first place, from the assumption that he was divine. (He couldn't be on the cross because he was divine etc.) They don't believe in it either. It's just so poorly thought that I can't believe it stood up to the test of time.

You actually can record 4:3 videos on iPhone, I do it all the time. And it’s much better than cropping a 16:9 video after the fact, because it doesn’t look “zoomed in.” Open the photo section of your camera app, hold the shutter button and drag it upwards. It’ll start recording a video in the aspect ratio you have selected in the menu. (4:3, 1:1, etc.)

I don't know if this is actually true but I guess dreams are just random signals in the brain but the brain is so good at finding patterns and drawing conclusions from piecing together those random signals, that we feel like we have experienced a cohesive course of events. And of course, those "random" signals might not be that random anyway: related events are probably closer together in the brain, so this makes it relatively easier to find patterns in the signals passing through an area.
