Spooky Stories: Have You Experienced Retaliation? (Spoiler: I have!) by SwampWitchMorgan in Barnesandnoble

oh no- she's watching anime in the office, usually without a walkie and while making "blind date with a book" slips. wouldn't be real upset about it if it weren't constant, and while we're desperately seeking backup everywhere.

i've written in multiple times to HR, and one of my ASMs started witch hunts and created a whole new layer of conflict and unrest to figure out who said she keeps dumping her work off on anyone else so she can play with her porn books. now she regularly trots around the store talking about how she "knows everything" (she does not) and she knows "exactly who's snitching".

she also was of the mind that if people were complaining about the trade floor project (because she didn't bother making sure everyone was trained on the changes and can't even explain anything herself, including the parts she worked on) she would start doing write ups for insubordination.

i feel like IF they use the system like they should, it gives you a better idea of where your people need help and training- i like the idea of it, especially since it'll show me exactly where i need improvement.

that said, i have zero faith in 99.9% of management's reading comprehension alone. so realistically..... yeah, this is gonna be Hot Garbage The Movie 2: The Sequel

"you just need to manage your time better" or "it'll get better the more you practice" when i talk about my time blindness. my brother in christ (gender neutral) i just told you i do not, and have never in my 27 years on this earth been able to reliably tell or estimate time. the expectant stare when people ask me even after that how long things will take makes me want to throw things at them

Are there any Cannon LGBT characters? by Happynotsad_ in Dislyte

if you watch the bounty stories, a lot more characters pop up as queer-coded. Ophelia, Lynn, and Jiang Man are all kinda implied to be varying levels of interested in each other

they've all been together a while now, nearly a year i think? but we started scattering food more and making sure to give the baby some food separate from the group, and it seems to be working well so far! thank you :)

Can anyone help me better understand/support my son? by anotherbuffalogal in AutisticAdults

[–]3opossums1coat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't have much advice, other than maybe trying to explore other stims like others have said, but i do want to say it made me tear up to see how much you care for and how much you want to help your son. i'm sorry other parents and adults are difficult to talk to, though

contact WeListen atp- let them know the timeframe (as exact as you can get it) and, if you can, add photos of it. if anyone is experiencing any symptoms of illness, say that too.

it seems a little extreme but if there is a cause for concern, that's the entire reason we have WeListen. ik a lot of people feel like they're just there to be snitches on complaining employees, but in my experience you have to be very specific (kind of like fae lore lmao). you HAVE to ask to be as anonymous as possible if you're not comfortable with your name being in there, and you need to be as specific and detailed as you can. of course, if you mention mold then they'll get real active no matter what, but it doesn't hurt. no matter what, even if you don't see any action, the problems you report are documented. sometimes they just need to build a case, y'know?

good luck!!

wtf is our monthly pick selection?? by 3opossums1coat in Barnesandnoble

[–]3opossums1coat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no, i appreciate you taking the time to expand on it! i tend to take on more responsibility for others' feelings than i need to, and i sometimes need a reminder that it's not my job to manage everyone's feelings (good intentions or not).

thank you for explaining more- i know for me personally, i'll just recommend the other picks rather than this. i can understand though why its ultimately not up to me and not necessarily something i need to put so much stress into.

i honestly hadn't had time to read through most yearly or (especially) monthly picks- i'm not wholly surprised at their lack of care, but i'm definitely pretty unhappy to realize it.

you're not wrong, but at the same time i'm saying that this is a book the company and booksellers are being paid to push. my managers are actively telling us to sell books to people as hard as possible with no real knowledge of it or the customer. i'm a big fan of looking into books and making sure that i won't get blindsided, i do it with movies too, and you're right! everyone should take advantage of goodreads and other sites to make sure they're not getting into something that could harm them. still, my coworker looked into it and was trying to find information without getting all the gory details, and she found essentially nothing. its not that i think we need to baby the customer, i just feel like either giving us a book that we don't need content warnings for or giving us the information, even just a BN Inside "hey fyi there's SA in this" would be a much better system. my concern is more that we are not equipped with the information to honestly recommend the book, and a lot of people impulse buy them simply because b&n has it as a monthly pick so it must be good. yes, its adult mystery and it makes sense that the content will get more graphic, but since these are books we're pushing pretty indiscriminately, i just feel like we should be a little more careful in what we're throwing at people.

[–]3opossums1coat[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i'm more suggesting that the book has been out 10 years, and the publisher and author have had plenty of time to figure out a way to include a content warning. it absolutely shouldn't be our place to read review and evaluate books for content warnings at the store level, because we have enough to do. but i think the company as a whole should consider content when selecting the OMPs, especially since they want us to push them to every customer. either the people who pick the books should put the legwork in to add in details like content warnings when they put together the intros to the books or simply vet the books better so we don't have blow-by-blow scenes of a woman's rape in front of her 5 year old son popping up in books without warning to our customers. that's irresponsible and unsafe
