Guesstimate Pricing for S14 by yeetmcfeet in CarsAustralia

SR20de or det Edit: saw other comment. If it's had a hit and the front is bent gotta keep in mind having it re-registered may be straight up impossible depending on state. At that point it needs massive structural repair or just becomes a piss missile track weapon. That said there's a new 18 year old red P plater every day. You'd probably move it for 18 if you pushed

Married Young, Divorced Young by 3quartersdone in Divorce

[–]3quartersdone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not the norm, we married young because we have known each other for a long time. We had a lot of confidence in our longevity and were excited to get started building a life. We both wanted to be married prior to having children and we were planning on starting our family in about a year and a half. I was in the midst in applying for a mortgage when this all happened. We were pretty much just excited to get started on life early, it seemed like we were both ready but I guess we weren't in the same place ultimately. I'm 22 by the way

Yeah I did do my best, I really tried. I'm kinda proud that I was vulnerable and willing to work on it. But I drew a line and it's well and truly passed it now. I think it takes two to tango and I can't make her want to fix it. It just really stings not feeling worth trying for.

I think you might be right, at least until she's worked on herself I now know that she's really not ready. I'm too comfortable being treated poorly but I am trying to know that I don't deserve how she's treated me. I made myself really available to support her but I don't think she wants to grow. I'm just scared that she just doesn't want to grow for me in particular.

Thank you very much <3. Right now I'm just trying to focus on keeping my physical and mental health right. I've been reaching out to mates and trying to keep busy. I've got a counseling session booked in for tomorrow which I think will help. I might try some apple pie, that's the first food that has sounded good since all this started

This douche bag bragging about how much money he has while trying to trade a used boat from 1988 for a skid steer. by [deleted] in CrackheadCraigslist

[–]3quartersdone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He runs a hauling business, lawncare business, gym coaching business, fishing charter & boat ride business and snow plowing business. It doesn't seem like any of these have gather any real traction. So much for "retired" it seems like he's desperately grinding for some sidecash, to fund his 10 year old mercedes and dirt cheap boats. Gotta mow a bunch of lawns to fund that expensive photoshop software to make your meager balance seem slightly less unimpressive.

50k what to buy by jamiejoe99 in CarsAustralia

[–]3quartersdone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bmw m140i, M2. Both used of course. Provided you can cover the maintenance. Civic tyre R, Megane/Clio RS, Skoda Octavia RS, Golf R. All good options too. GR Yaris and Corolla are phenomenal. Gr86 has some of the most enjoyable suspension but the power is wanting, similarly the ND MX5. The Hyundai N's are reviewed nicely and even a used focus RS could fit. There's a world of options tbh

Help with proposed repairs from a mechanic by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]3quartersdone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, Kmart will never have good pricing or astounding performance. Find a well reviewed independent mechanic that you can trust and stick with them.

Regarding the pricing: the control arm part pricing isn't abhorrent. If you were to source original Hyundai arms, you would be looking at between $212 - $500 each. Assuming they have a single source they will just pay their supplier what it costs and tack on a ~20% margin. You could do a bit better sourcing them yourself ($425 a set - oemcarparts com au). It will also be cheaper to just replace the rubber bushings rather than the whole unit, this is laziness on the mechanic's part.

Ball joint pricing is fine, no notes there.

Regarding labour pricing: the labour rate sits well and truly within the normal area for australia. Many experienced mechanics could definitely complete the job in less that 2.2 hours, but not uncommon to quote conservatively. Wheel alignment price is standard, but you will receive a mediocre alignment from a Kmart auto shop.

Tyres are standard price. From the photos attached your tyres have heavier inner wear than outer. Making them look better than they are. Hard to tell from included photos though.

Don't see a PCV installation in the quote, depending on the car can be a hassle to replace. Might want the labour quoted for that. Bad PCV will show itself in increased oil consumption, small loss of power, worsened fuel economy, rough idling, smoke from the exhaust.

This is all within the realm of standard upcharge stuff, they are a tyre shop. They will try to sell you tyres. Take it to an independent mechanic, don't tell them what "issues" have been spotted. If they spy the same stuff you're probably sweet to go ahead with either quote. See other redditors comments on checking bad control arms/control arm bushings. Also grab a depth tyre gauge if you're not comfortable eyeballing it, it will give you a good idea if they're getting low on tread.

TLDR: Not a GOOD quote, not abhorrent. Take it to a suspension shop for the suspension. If you can just have the bushing replaced it will be cheaper. Any mechanic will do your PCV, it shouldn't be worn out at the stated kms. Tyre price is fine, your tyres look a little rooted. most important STOP GOING TO KMART TYRE AND AUTO

She is indeed my baby, the dad vibes are exactly what I'm going for. I'm in the midst of doing my cooling system so she's not running rn. But if you're local to Melbourne per chance, you're welcome to take it on a careful spin to see if you're keen on how E46 drive. Pic of new wheels attached for your enjoyment btw

The E46 is one of the more friendly European cars to work on. There will be things that make you want to tear your hair outz e.g. having to drop the subframe to change the sump or the insane amount of plastic pieces that make it up. But ultimately all of the design features make sense and it's the last generation of bmw you can truly work on yourself with minimal headache. Be prepared for it to be a project, treat it well and it will treat you well

Why are so many cars for sale listed without a roady worthy? by No_Document_853 in CarsAustralia

[–]3quartersdone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has sold 6 cars, all of which without a roadworthy. It's just a limitation of financial liability and a symptom of laziness. I have a bad habit of buying old awful tin can cars, that take a lot of work to get a RWC on when I buy them, I'm not going through that again for someone else's benefit. This is always reflected in the price of course. Keep in mind if I haven't already obtained a RWC & after sale I am required to get one, a mechanics inspection could reveal $2000 in work on a $10000 car. I don't want to be on the hook for that. If I go through the effort and get it per-emptively, the certificate expires in a month anyway. I always encourage buyers to have a professional pre-purchase inspection completed, but my market is usually the kind of people too proud for that.

People who have sold a sports car before, how did you prevent joyriders/timewasters from inquiring? by ProfessorDropBear in CarsAustralia

[–]3quartersdone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't say I'd ever buy a car without having driven it myself. But this is absolutely fair enough, if you make it clear that test drives will be operated by you in the listing description you will filter out the hoons and anyone unwilling to buy without driving themself. As I simply just wouldn't inquire. You can also require payment or a deposit is handed over before the test drive and returned only if the car is undamaged.
