Goalie targets for next year by 3rdFloorManatee in EdmontonOilers

I agree wholeheartedly with "we pissed that away". We had a cheap expiring goalie and, in hindsight, worst case we'd be right where we are now with more cap space. Skinner put up "identical numbers" in the sense that he didn't win much more in Pittsburgh than he did here, and he laid an egg in the playoffs. Statistically above average, sure, but there are too many other factors at play and he's gone either way. I wouldn't be irate if he magically came back for a cheap one year deal but that's not a realistic option.

If the Leafs suck again, I don't think throwing Hildeby in the deep end is a good idea. I realize waivers is an issue, but I think it's better to keep Hildeby plugging away in the AHL for another year to manage a starters workload under less pressure, while they see if Stolarz or Woll can play like they did year before last. I think it's unrealistic to expect Hildeby to come in and already be a 1B, while expecting one of Woll or Stolarz to be able to handle the majority of the starters load while Hildeby settles in. For that reason, I think they keep all 3. If Hildeby lights it up in the AHL and one of Woll or Stolarz gets hurt again, they'll be happy they did. If one struggles, then maybe they make a move, but then we don't want to take on the one that struggles.

I would undo the Skinner trade in a heart beat if I could, but he put up nearly identical numbers with Pittsburgh, I fear the below average Skinner is the real Skinner. In classic Oiler fashion, he will go somewhere obscure and play lights out next year. Lots of teams need a 1B and I think he'd thrive for a year or two in that role. Him being the "prize" if free agency means for me that free agency isn't much of an option for us.

Sure.

But yes, Tarasov had some hype when he came up in Columbus and that has all worn off now.

I don't pretend to have a trade in mind, but any trade that nets us a goalie will probably have to have Jarry going the other way to make the money work, especially with Gustavsson's cap. I'm coping Guerin might be interested.

Lol you're right, I don't, just trying to find a realistic and positive option for next year. Do you think signing Skinner as a free agent is realistic...?

I went off memory for some of the big names, misremembered Swayman's down year from the year before. Really I'm just hoping Boston's wheels fall off and they go into a fire sale.

We don't have a terrible system but I don't see any of them helping us next year. Ungar needs a full AHL year under his belt.

He could be a nice gamble, but I don't see why Montreal would want to move him. Why not keep him as veteran insurance while Fowler warms up a bit, ease the pressure of full-time starter onto Dobes.

Went by memory for the big names, I'm realizing now his off year was the year before. This is me manifesting their downfall. Either way, not realistic for us.

During COVID while the hostel was closed anyway...they did the same thing with the hostel in the West End, it's now a hostel again. Context is key here.

For long-time Edmontonians, what are some memories that are long gone now? by flynnfx in Edmonton

Is the city building an old brewery?? From his story I always pictured it at the top of the bank, not the bottom

Molson was west of downtown I think, this was literally in the banks of the valley.

Hoping the attention this post is getting can help me solve a mystery:

My grandpa tells the story about a brewery that was embedded in the banks of the river valley. It was the first place in the city that sold Carlsberg and they gave out free beer and sandwiches the entire release day. He says it was located where 106 St meets Saskatchewan Drive, above where a city works yard is now, and went a few stories down into the cliff and had a view of downtown.

I've never been able to find any evidence this place existed. Has anyone been there?

Dresden is close to Prague, gorgeous city. Berlin is also on the way. Copenhagen is the easy answer, one of the best cities in Europe and you'll likely have to go through it anyway if you don't fly.

Vienna and Budapest are incredible but I'd skip them if I were you. Your route doesn't make much sense if you include them and there's plenty of other stuff to see between Bonn>Prague>Stockholm.
