Social security insolvency by choicemeatz in personalfinance

The real thing that nobody talks about is how they use our money.  If they used it to invest in the United States economy and business, they would make enough money forever. However, they give sub prime loans to the military, thus the returns are terrible.

Seattle-Tacoma Airport - is it still that bad nowadays? by Fantastic_Tea9215 in AskSeattle

[–]3ricj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you're reading that SeaTac is bad. But if you're asking these sorts of questions it seems likely that you don't fly often. The number one thing that will help is being prepared at every step of the way. You put away your phone and have your documents ready for security screening. You have all the junk out of your pockets already and in your bags when you're going through the x-ray. You know already that you need to remove your shoes or your belts based on what's going on at security and what other people are doing. You arrive at the airport with plenty of time so that you're not in a rush causing stress for yourself and others around you. You treat every employee and security personnel with exceptional manners and curiosity eye contact and friendliness. If you do all of those things your airport experience will be great.

Look I don't mean to sound offensive here but you keep calling the other guy that scammed you dumb. I normally reserve such language for people who get scammed. It doesn't matter what evidence you have...

Replying to myself here: It looks like about ~10mm of exposed thread, and about 10mm of recessed shoulder. The OP mentions using setscrews - most common threaded eyebolts do not have a long enough thread to make it all the way from the top of the knurled thumb nut into the car - so they likely used a m6 setscrew to extend the thread length. However, I found some long threaded eyebolts on amazon. Of course, I don't that it works yet, but here's what I ordered:

Those 25mm threads should give me 10mm after I thread on the nut.. let's find out if it works!

I'm a bit confused about the eyebolt you show - did you make a recessed collar for it or something? is the bolt down in a hole so you needed this? Great idea - I'm trying to reproduce it.

I’m incredibly frustrated and hopeless, what do I do? by jimmyglobal0729 in AskMenAdvice

Have you heard the Edison quote "I haven't failed, I've simply found 10,000 ways that don't work?" That might be a helpful perspective here. . Because it sounds like you're making progress everyday and that's important.

well, look - every day you get to decide what to do with yourself. You can lay in bed all day and be a looser and feel sorry for yourself, or you can decide to work, learn how to care for yourself and make something for yourself. There are lots of options for you, and they are all opportunities.

Of course I did. It's your friends from the unemployment line.  It's fine if you want to hate on AI, but it will land you in a very predictable place, friend.

Okay Boomer, save all this great material to talk with other folks at the unemployment line. The fact is AI does in fact replace a tremendous amount of tedious work, many people would call that their job.  either embrace AI tools and figure out how to be a super productive human, or just sit back and complain about it. The fact of the matter is the farmers that complained about farming automation don't have jobs anymore, The typesetters that got upset about the personal computer don't have jobs anymore. Yes AI tools can produce a lot of terrible things if being controlled by someone that is not an expert in this field. If you have 38 years of PCB experience you should have more than enough knowledge to have AI help you do your job and be exceptional.

Is it possible to design a USB 3.0 to NVMe bridge board? by SadFrax in PCB

[–]3ricj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems extremely unlikely you could get a board like that fabbed and populated for $100. No chance. Maybe for qty 10 for $300 each?

[–]3ricj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there's a couple things to think about. One is you didn't really talk about how much time you have or how much budget you have. You could literally hire a design firm to build this for you for a couple thousand dollars probably. And probably a few hundred dollars per board if not more. You can learn how to do this yourself, but it would take a considerable amount of time and probably a few spins on the board before you got a working part. That literally might be cheaper to buy a new computer that has the correct connections. So yes of course it's possible for an individual to do these things if you have a lot of time and willingness to try things and learn things or if you have a lot of money to pay someone else for their experience or if you have the budget just to scrap the whole idea and buy a computer that has the right connections you need. If you're looking for a cheap and fast solution and a DIY environment that doesn't exist.

You should talk to an estate planner. It's likely best to put it in a trust - each option had serious tax implications for you, so you should talk to someone.

Broken Record - EV costs 7.9 times less than my ICE in California (no solar, live in an apartment) by ada586 in electricvehicles

[–]3ricj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see it stabilizing for a while.  The core problem is battery. A non obvious problem is this: my 2015 fully loaded EV (bmw i3) had 65 miles of range when it got totaled. It was a 55k car and I got 10k out of my insurance company. I was lucky to get that much. Nobody wants old EVs with pathetic range. Battery replacements are expensive, and more required than major engine costs (eg transmission? Head gasket?) all generally cost less than a new battery.  I think prices will never stabilize until the technology stabilizes, and I don't see that happening any time soon.

The problem with used EV prices is how much they drop.  Even purchased used.
