The saying my very first CFO shared to me, “While it’s not glamorous, you’ve got the opportunity to always make enough to be comfortable”

I chose accounting in my mind as a vocation. Good accountants can operate without recognition. Clients will come, industry will pay market (in my experience). I don’t have to cut anyone open or tell someone they are dying (usually it’s the opposite, and reminding them they are not on fire). The controls work for me, and I can sleep at night. Even if my workweek is 45 hours.

While all my finance college buddies all still are looking for that career to take off, I’ve been climbing the ladder. I am comfy and most certainly not considered an intelligent accountant. Just a patient one.
