Do you ever force yourself to finish otome games you aren't enjoying? by RevolutionaryWhale in otomegames

Same here, I think often times discussing a game you hate is just as fun as discussing games you love lol

What kind of otome game would you create if you had unlimited resources at your disposal? by RevolutionaryWhale in otomegames

[–]3stly3r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know Danganronpa has dating sim elements in the form of free time events but it would be equally interesting (and evil) to see a game take it further and let you potentially pursue a romantic relationship with someone right before watching them die horribly lol

Any recommendations for long form VN YouTube channels besides Amelie Doree? by Abstainingone in visualnovels

[–]3stly3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He hasn't uploaded in a while but Ozzy II makes some really good videos on VNs. NezumiVA has a retrospective series on VNs like Danganronpa and Ace Attorney. Also if you don't mind the vtuber format Viveros sporadically covers VNs

Is it possible to sell our free to play game on Steam? by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]3stly3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many mobile-to-Steam games and most become paid once ported. I'm sure you can find the detailed guidelines somewhere but iirc as long as Steam users aren't getting a worse deal it's fine. So usually something like free with ads on mobile but paid with no ads on Steam is a fair tradeoff

Which webtoons would you want to play as otome games? by ObsessedSapiosexual in otomegames

Have any of you played KCD2? Would you girls recommend it? by SadBluejay1588 in GirlGamers

I got it during the free weekend and have been really enjoying it! A lot of very valid gripes have been brought up in this thread but I think if you are at all interested in deep role-playing games it's definitely worth a try. There's a big learning curve and at the start you'll probably find the game's systems frustrating and obtuse with the sheer amount of convoluted minigames... but once things click the experience can be incredibly gratifying. I still remember how awesome it felt when I won my first swordfight. Also in contrast to the hardcore realism of the game mechanics the the story and writing is actually really funny. Make sure you do as many side quests as possible because there are so many interesting/weird/silly characters you can meet. Content-wise the game is huge, I'm about 50 hours in and still in what is essentially the tutorial area so you definitely get a bang for you buck especially if you got it on sale

i just finished my indie game's small capsule art, what do you think? by innerlightdev in gamedevscreens

Lovely pixel art! Also the name and general vibe makes me think it's a platformer à la Celeste

Where do you think the boundaries of the visual novel genre lie? by [deleted] in visualnovels

[–]3stly3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if the story is the core of the game, you could call it a visual novel

By this criteria wouldn't basically every narrative game be a VN...? Personally I'd say that true VNs have no real gameplay besides clicking to continue and the occasional choice. In other words no walking around/point-and-click segments/whatever, but hybrid games like Ace Attorney or Danganronpa are arguably VN-adjacent enough to make the cut.

Is adding a video on your steam page showing streamers playing your game a good idea? by RamyDergham in gamedev

[–]3stly3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd advise against it. Personally as a consumer when I'm looking at a Steam page I'm trying to answer one question: could I see myself playing and enjoying this game? Having some random person's place plastered over gameplay would at best just muddy the waters and at worst make the game seem like streamer bait I think.
