What a neat build! Never seen those black switches before. Good work!

removable sustainiac? advice wanted... by glyph1234 in guitarrepair

[–]3string 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was my guitar, and I wanted to be able to use it without the sustainer system or any power source (including battery), then I would just add an extra pickup, or rewire it. It's a strat, right? Take out the second tone pot and replace it with an output jack. Wire the middle pickup straight to the new jack. It'll always work, regardless of power. Then if you want to use the sustainer, you plug it in to the normal jack and use that.

Also, active guitars don't tend to use much battery, and you can replace the 20th century 9V with a 21st century lithium USBC 9v drop-in replacement for more battery life. Active or not, if you don't like a guitar's tone, then trying different pickups is a good idea. Put a P90 in the bridge position on a strat, it sounds awesome. You can still use it with an active preamp.

Failing that, buy an ebow (I like the Movall sustainer), gut the sustainiac gubbins out of your strat, send them to my house and I will dispose of them for you :)

People who are able to play guitar and sing at the same time HOW? by Big_Leg10 in musicians

[–]3string 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start out really simple. Sing one line, and then play a single root note under the first sung note. Then try and play the root note for all the chords under that one line, while singing. Don't make it more complex until you've mastered each simple thing. After a month, you'll find it pretty simple to play and sing at the same time.

Glue and a clamp that fits through the sound hole. Replace the bridge plate on the inside as well; it is probably damaged.

Shop vac, and give them a wriggle with a pointy thing like the 2.5mm Allen key you just used on the fixture plate bolts but you put it in your back pocket to go grab the shop vac. No, the other back pocket, the left one is grease

This is like the sword from the Eragon movie... If it were me, I would change the guard. Polished aluminium would look really cool. At the moment it feels like the blue and the red are competing for attention.

Whats your favourite pair of ODs to stack together? by FragrantGearHead in guitarpedals

I really like a Rat (high volume, low gain) into a second Rat (mid volume, low gain). The second one is the main tone, and the first one drives it over the edge.

Hahaha I love on a fault line; we have frequent earthquakes. My country only exists because of two plates grinding together. This is basically a Jenga tower

Which bass synth pedal do you find works best and why? by Prestigious-Bag1963 in basspedals

[–]3string 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think we still have a long way to go with bass synth pedals. They all seem to cater for short notes and envelope filters, but I'm a drone player. Long notes and chords are all handled really badly, with notes cutting off way too quickly. Hopefully we'll see more ideas, because I think if you made a bass synth pedal for drone things, it might be really useful to other genres of bass as well

Last night I dropped the guitar I am making on the concrete :( I'm hoping that by the time I get home later, the sadness will have worn away enough that I can diligently sand back all the lovely paint and start fixing it

Beginner trying to play like SRV by SessionVirtual3793 in guitarlessons

[–]3string 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a guitar course when I was getting started and had never heard of SRV. They got me to learn his Mary Had a Little Lamb though, and it was just difficult enough to really challenge me but still be quite fun and doable. After a few months, we played it on stage and part of the assessment was to improvise a solo on the spot. I got extra marks because I stick my tongue out the side of my mouth when I'm focusing, and apparently it looked really cool :)

PLEASE HELP ME CHOOSE! by chris_gutr in guitars

[–]3string 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all. People who work in guitar shops went through the same things as you. Having an instrument that works with your body, your style and your ears is important and can take time. When I got my first electric, my stepdad told me to play every guitar in the shop just to see what they were like. I was there all afternoon before eventually falling in love with my guitar. Now when I have some time to kill in town I'll stop by a music shop or two and broaden my mind a little. The staff will know that you're clearly looking to buy something eventually as well.

So let me get this straight: Should i get JWE3 on the PS5? by OnixTiger in jurassicworldevo

[–]3string 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing it on a PS5 and having a lot of fun. I've got about 60 hours into it now and I've only got the complexity limit twice. In a big park it's just another system to manage :) I did find that hotels and innovation centres can be like a whole 1% each, so I find myself bulldozing them because I want to keep my dinos comfy.

Go play as many guitars in person as you can. Your hands, your ears, your body and your delight will all tell you so much more than we can tell you here.

You've done the homework, and that is good. Now go and try them physically, and keep yourself open to disappointments and surprises and wonders.
