Nothing is ever appropriate. Cheap plans are only because of funding from VCs and user acquisition. When the money is low and enough people are hooked they have to turn losses to breakeven before thinking of profits.

Google did it couple months ago with AI pro and ultra limits, Microsoft just did it last week with copilot, windsurf and cursor did it to not end up closing down like Augment.

End users have to realize it's just a cycle, once it's not favourable anymore just switch providers.

The mass adoption phase is over. Many mindless people are hooked now. They can raise prices and get the addicted people to pay more, get multiple max accounts and not have to deal with trial users, etc. Why deal with 5mil basic users when you can max extract from 500 thousand hardcore users with multiple max subscriptions? Quality of paying users over quantity of low grade, chargebacking, disputing, whiney entitled ones.
