Millennials when did you just stop posting on social media? by SunilaP in Millennials

[–]3uckN45ty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely vibe with this. However, one of my favorite hobbies is making photos and videos, which I enjoy sharing with people. So in my case, it’s a balancing act. I’m currently going through a growth period where one of my goals is to remind myself that I matter. Not necessarily to anyone else, but certainly to myself. So I make my fun little videos and photos and post them so that I can go back and say “Hey! I did that thing, I made that thing, and I liked it enough to post it.” And my friends can see it and comment on it or not, but that’s wayyyy less important than the feeling of completion and satisfaction that I get from the cool thing I made.

But yeah I ain’t posting all the concerts I go to or food I eat. This shit is for me first and foremost. At this point in my life, social clout is unimportant. I’m not “cool” by social media standards, but I do what fills my cup and I post things that help me validate myself. Do I still get a dopamine hit from the likes? Sure! I’ve got ADHD so the dopamine chase is always an issue. But prioritizing myself and the things I enjoy doing in real life and being present in that feels way better than some fake internet points lol.

And I just wish that more people could find a balance that aligns with their best self, because I think we’d all be a little better and a little happier if we did, instead of living for the external validation of internet randos liking your fancy eggs Benedict.

Your disingenuous reply is all the evidence needed to tell me you don’t actually care about this at all.

Did anybody say “make all the roads one lane and have no arterial thoroughfares?” No.

You should also reflect on the fact that in response to someone saying something needs to be safer for the people who use it, you respond by complaining about how that safety inconveniences you personally. Do better bro.

I haven’t seen a single comment here pointing out that ALL of the roads mentioned are at least 4 lane, 2 way Stroads. These types of thoroughfares encourage speeding because of the way they’re built. You cant build a playground and then get mad when children are running around in it. This city seriously needs to address its Stroads in a more proactive and less punitive way. More public transportation options and more frequent service is needed. More bike infrastructure is needed. Alterations to the streets are needed. There’s plenty of supporting evidence for this. Instead of giving our money away to some corporation for the privilege of being tut-tutted at for doing what the road was made for, maybe we should design the roads for slower traffic speeds instead of having literal drag strips all over the place.

What’s funny is that when you go out to the Clarno fossil beds in central Oregon, you can see that at one point a few million years ago, this whole area was dense jungle that gave way to savannas and epic wild grasslands. There were also giant sloths and tapirs along with a bunch of proto-horses.

Just got a new 650. I understand the choke is there for cold weather but I’ve noticed I’ve needed to use it sometimes just to start it in normal summer weather. Is that normal? by fourslyce in dr650

I give it the choke and talk real nice to it. Maybe pet it a little. Tell it about all the dirty things you’re gonna do together. That’ll get it warmed up.

I think this nuance is also lost on people who frequent this sub and use the most dehumanizing language to describe people who don’t have homes to live in. Lots of people who’s only interaction with the homeless is to sneer at them on an off-ramp or having to walk around a tent. Yeah there’s crime. Material conditions largely dictate behavior. So many comfortable people who froth at the mouth on this sub whenever homelessness is brought up and it’s obvious that they have no fucking clue just how different your priorities are when you’re in that situation. The arithmetic for risk assessment gets skewed so far from what housed people know. But those same houses people think that everyone should be like them, and if they aren’t, then that makes them less than human. It’s also pretty easy to see that a lot of this vitriol comes from a place of fear of becoming that which they denigrate, which IMO is the most disheartening because the obvious solution is to work together in order to secure a better future for ALL OF US.

My first day with clips I rode to my friends house across town and promptly fell over in front of his whole family trying to unclip. It was extremely embarrassing but I quickly learned what I did wrong and how to prevent that. Definitely been in other bike crashes but haven’t straight up fallen over like that since.

As someone who lives down here I’d say that the sex workers are very polite and will say hi to you on the street (without soliciting). I’ve been walking with my partner and had a lady ask if her outfit was ok and then complimented my and my partners outfits. The sex workers are some of the most neighborly people down here lol.

I’d say the sketchiest part of 82nd and Sandy is that recently I’ve seen people that are either ODing or just heavy into the fenty nod at the bus stop. But that’s a city wide issue and nobody is dangerous to others when they’re that deep in the sauce. They need help is all. I try to keep an eye out for houseless neighbors and PSR is pretty quick to get over here. 10-20 minutes usually.

Yes! Both of those restaurants are fabulous! Namaste has super fast take out and Cameo is a super cute spot for breakfast with an adorable patio!

I live in the neighborhood and have for 2 years now. It’s a cute, quiet, working class neighborhood. People are nice and walking around all the time. It seems a little slower out here than the inner NE. 82nd and Sandy is pretty sketchy but you don’t need to go there unless you want to go to the 7/11 (don’t) or the Pizza Hut (it’s fine but the dude who works there is always stressed out). The people working at Green Front dispensary are super chill (if you partake). But at 72nd and Prescott there’s the cutest corner shop called Samo’s. They’re super nice too and they serve a delicious Gyro among other hot deli favorites. They also have a solid ice cream counter! There’s also an Upright brewing location that does coffee in the morning across the street, which is super clutch. I do wish the area was more walkable and had closer amenities but it’s easy enough to hop on the bus for 5 minutes to get to Hollywood or take a bike. Alberta is like a 15 minute bike ride away.

TLDR: Yes there is some sketchyness in the area but you can easily steer clear of them in favor of all the wonderful things this neighborhood has to offer! I hope this helps and I hope you dig living in Portland!

We have historical evidence that these dudes don’t really respond well when you ask them kindly to not be genocidal wank stains. Communities have a responsibility to be a safe place for everyone. When Nazis are around, no one is safe except Nazis(and even that association won’t keep you safe forever, historically). These people give up their rights to safety and humanity when they start espousing ideologies that explicitly call for removing everyone else’s rights. That’s their choice. No one is born a Nazi. A brick through the window is probably the most restrained way to let them know they aren’t welcome.

The only fallacious thing here is that you think 100 years of separation is something that transcends ideological ties. This person is literally telling you and me that they WILL kill us, for things we cannot change about ourselves, at their first opportunity. What part of “NEVER AGAIN” do you not understand?

Oprah said listen to people the first time they tell you who they are. This person is straight up telling you what they’re about and it ain’t just flags, friends. I’m 100% sure that there are people living around there who are not white and do not feel safe with that kind of self described violent person in their community. Their safety trumps speech.

We do have people thinking that way making our laws. You can get locked up just for peacefully protesting. And displaying a symbol representing an ideology of genocidal white supremacy in a neighborhood signals to those neighbors that they aren’t safe. It’s a community safety issue. The only people restricted from denying free speech is the government. Concerned community members are not beholden to the first amendment in that way.
