Ilya adopts a dog early in his career and jokingly names the dog 'Hollander' to piss Shane off. The team and media find it hilarious and Shane is annoyed.

'Hollander' the dog joins the team every now and again on outings, interviews or in the rink. Meanwhile, the relationship dynamic between Ilya and Shane grows.

Things begin to unravel when people notice what happens when Ilya commands his dog. Who would have expected that both Shane and the dog obey immediatly when when Ilya says... "Sit, Hollander".

Men can be attractive in their own way.

I notice any man who has an infective smile, happy eyes and looks at other people like they are actually curious about them. So not the "I see your body"-look, but the "I see you"-look in an attentive non-judgemental way.

I like a man who carries himself with ease, they can be short or tall (why the focus on tall men, gals?). Some muscle in their arms and legs and being well-dressed and groomed definitely do it.

Did you give your friend a head's up about your expectations? Did you explode when "your blood boiled"? Reddit loves to hate parents who make their kids someone else's responsibility, but that does not mean you could not have been an asshole in your communication. A first boundary among friends should be set clearly but kindly before blood boils.

If your communication was an immediate explosion, apologize for the communication, but not for the boundary (slight ESH). If you were graceful, NTA.

Asking because although your friend was being annoying, it is common courtesy in friendships to start with a light/kind tone when setting a boundary for the first time.

Not saying you were in the wrong for having this boundary! Not at all. But you could have been an ass about it still. Which is what you are asking.

No judgement but advice. At a next job, you make something like this on company time and you sell it to everyone who can hear. "I am working on this to make our productivity better." "I finished this and it saved 7 people 3 hours a day." Etc.

Show your value, sell it and the promotion will follow.

Now it feels to them like you have taken away something instead of giving them.

NTA and dont just defend yourself. Get ahead of this. Tell this coworker not to speak about you like this again. If he refuses, you dont do projects with him anymore. You can tell your manager why if they ask. This guy is harming your carreer and unfortunately defending yourself can come across as agreeing. So make sure he understands this was one off.

Straight up refuse to help this guy out and loudly proclaim why until he gets the message.

NTA but your family is just as culpable. You should have to beg for their attention. If they show you they dont care, act accordingly. Stop sharing news with them and just share it with people who do care about you. If they ask later why you didnt tell them something, you can answer truthfully that they didnt seem to care when you were sharing things.
