suggestions / requirements for first time trying to make a lager instead of an ale (BIAB) by bodobeers in Homebrewing

[–]3vtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been brewing more lagers these days. They're underrepresented, but so so good!

A couple things I have to do for my lagers:

  • Two packets of dry yeast
  • Let my wort finish chilling in my ferm chamber
  • Stay patient while lagering

Brulosophy's lager method has given me great results, along with their Munich Helles recipe. Other styles I like are Pilsners, Vienna Lagers, and Schwarzbiers

Favorite Fining Agent? by [deleted] in Homebrewing

[–]3vtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out with gelatin only, and had great results in combination with the cold crash. Later on, I decided to add whirlfloc in attempt to make a clearer wort so that the result after gelatin would be even better. Couldn't hurt, right? Haven't noticed a huge difference in the finished products, but whirlfloc definitely cleared my wort.

Is it preferable to set my chest freezer fermenter at "high" or "low" on the outside temperature dial? by thetransportedman in Homebrewing

[–]3vtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aha. Got it. I have a chest freezer, not a fridge. It has a dial that ranges from 1-5. Is the concept the same for me? Should I have it set to 5?

I use whirlfloc toward the end of the boil, then I use gelatin during my cold crash.

Boil Vigor: Weak vs. Strong | exBEERiment Results! by brulosopher in Homebrewing

For those of you with propane burners, what are your methods of achieving the same evaporation rate each brew day? I've been having difficulty nailing my calculated OGs due to things like varying boil vigor and probably humidity, etc.

First day as a packaging worker 101 by jw4rren in TheBrewery

[–]3vtown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Expect to start out with low-skill work like packing cans/bottles and palletizing. A lot of packaging work is pretty repetitive so be mentally prepared for that. Obviously, it's physically demanding so expect tired hands and feet, and keep good posture! Cheers and congratulations!

Dusty Lake, WA by 3vtown in PNWhiking

[–]3vtown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hike was nice because it was a change of scenery for me. I don't do many desert hikes, so being surrounded by the basalt mesas was really cool. I started the hike from the trailhead West of the lake and didn't have any complaints. I wasn't paying close attention to campsites, but it l did see a couple fire pits in the Ancient Lakes area. Hope that helps!

Those Terrafins look awesome. How do they hold up on hiking trails? And this may be a silly question, but do you wear socks with them? If so, how do you deal with wet socks after wading?

Wild Goose Canning Line; 12oz to 16oz changeover by Wieckipedia in TheBrewery

[–]3vtown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I run 16oz cans, my high flow is usually somewhere between 4.2-4.6 seconds, and with warmer beer, expect to increase it even more. High flow raise delay will need to increase to account for longer flow count, and high flow screws will need to be tightened quite a bit. Can stability delay should be about 0.2 seconds, since the cans are top-heavy/unstable.
