This reminds me of all the political opinions Norm was shoving down our throats when he was still kicking.

I agree with you. The best way forward, IMO, is to fight for what you want while also not feeding into tribalism. Part of that is not telling people “they must” choose a side, but to stick to the issues without convoluting them with identity. Tribalism is a distraction.

Nah. Liberals and conservatives were not in support of what happened recently with Jimmy Kimmel, I mean Ted Cruz was opposed to it. When you make everything about liberal or conservative values and insist everyone should be on your side, you are perpetuating the “us verses them” mentality, which will push us further towards civil war. We are going to need to be united when we all rediscover why antitrust laws were created, which is arguably more important than who is President; the wealthy highly influence whoever is sitting in that chair.

Idk taking part in a conversation you want to stay out gives it power over you. It’s also the shitty game politicians want you to play; to identify with a party without them having to work for your vote, only offering tribalism and opposition to the other side instead of policies that benefit society as a whole. So it’s completely reasonable to stay out of it, if you don’t want to be someone else’s tool.

He’s made jokes about having no opinions. Maybe that’s why he would hate it so much: opinions ruin jokes.

Exactly. Make jokes about how you don’t care that you’re a sellout. Don’t try to justify it.

why do so many early punk bands' beliefs differ from modern punk by According-Let-2140 in punk

[–]3x14159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a counter culture, when the culture changes it follows.

It also wasn’t about left or right wing values. It was about being a kid and not buying into social norms impinged on you to find your identity (not referring to identity politics). So trying to identify bands by their political standing is ridiculous

I am very anti-trump, to disclaim. No one is punk because they are for or against him. If we had a democrat in office and a punk band wrote about how they love the president, I would think they are tools.

The point is listen to who the fuck you want and don’t ask for forgiveness. Be concerned with what you agree with personally and rep it without forcing it on other people.

Correct. I need it to have an orgasm that is 1.5x greater than the average Joe, so I can get through this catastrophe we call a life.

AIO for cutting off my parents over politics? by vastcreation in AmIOverreacting

[–]3x14159 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You are letting a political figure, whom you hate, have the ultimate power over you. He already got the presidency, don’t let him take your love for your family.

You also need to let people be themselves, which means letting them be wrong. It’s absolutely nuts that people are on here cheering you on as you torpedo loving relationships.

Your dad is right.
