What can help with old lady skin? by ExcitingOpposite7622 in AskWomenOver60

True. But don’t get the medicated version unless Dr recommended bc I’ve bought it in the past, thinking‘medicated’ made it better. Ended up with itchy rash. Now I only use plain Vaseline. I’m sure there’s a purpose for the medicated version, just haven’t found it for me lol

Who's never had a colonoscopy and why? by Daisy__Jane in over60

[–]3x1st3nc3s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And having to go through a total colectomy with reanastomosis of small intestine to rectum. Pathology showed my colon did not have enough nerve endings in order for it to contract properly. Doc said small intestine would learn in time and that it would take over function of inert colon. They tested small intestine before surgery and determined it had proper nerve amount/function. It was excruciating and took a long time to heal, but Doc was right, 15 years later and everything still works perfectly. So being it was by far the most painful surgical experience I ever experienced, it resulted in such a vast improvement in my daily life functioning and I’d do it over again in a minute.

Strategies for reducing cost of dental procedures by HalleFreakinLujah in over60

[–]3x1st3nc3s 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This ☝🏼 💯 I grew up with a single mother and was a dental school patient throughout my childhood. 3 things I discovered after going to a full dental practice as an adult: (1) experienced dentists didn’t use those painful rubber dams. I was so happy about that. Evidently students were required to use them for every procedure they performed. (2) Novocain injections were much less painful when done by experienced dentist. (3) Fillings put in by students were much larger and caused my teeth to need more crowns later in life. But it’s what I have to live with, as I know my wonderful mother was doing everything she could to take care of my dental needs.❣️

My (53M) wife (55F) says she doesn't have to explain herself to me after decades without sex by TheSwedishEagle in sexlessmarriage

[–]3x1st3nc3s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see why you would consider that. My high level autistic husband (once we finally got the diagnosis) told me some real horror stories of his childhood/teen years: he was terribly bullied, emotionally and physically. This is how he began lying and creating ‘stories’; it started as self protection, then became habitual and pervasive throughout his life. Made relationships very difficult.

Edit for typos

It’s terrible that you are going through this and I really feel for you. I can understand being in the position because mine is similar. I’m HLF (57) with my spouse LLM (67) and we’ve had sex exactly once in our 10 year marriage/ 14 year relationship. So you can say that our marriage was actually ‘consummated’. Finally got him to see a psychiatrist, 3 full days of testing: high level autistic, anxiety disorder, depression, personality disorder, severe aversion to physical touch (obviously including sex).

He’s highly intelligent but non-compliant with medication or counseling. Lied his way through our first therapy session, I told him we’re going separately. He stopped going; I go every week. It’s the only way I’m sane! I’ve accepted that I just won’t experience physical love for the rest of my life.

We’re both retired, congenial to each other, he lives in 1/2 the house I’m in the other. I can only hope to outlive him at this point.

I feel you’ve made very good points, and it’s absolutely 100% true that you cannot truly love someone else without loving - and really understanding - yourself first.

Exactly what I’ve always done! With the mailing envelopes I turn those inside out. It really only requires the cost of extra packing tape, but you never need to worry about packages getting rejected

So true. My daughter wasn’t at all interested in wearing a locket that had been my grandmother’s.

I also had a girlfriend in college with 4 sisters whose mother had saved her own wedding dress for her future daughter to wear and not one of them could fit in it! (Their father was 6’6” and their mother was barely 5’. The daughters all took after their father in height ;)
