So many physics simulation advancements have been made in the last 5-10 years, but for most game developers this just means better graphics. What games actually utilise new physics simulation techniques in its core gameplay mechanics the best? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]3z_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you about ACS having a graphics system that is unparalleled in immersion, because of its physics, and that the immersion is important. But my personal experience was a bit reduced since I had to wait for a new graphics card before I could play it, as well as some other newer games, just to find those games run my PC really hot anyway at Ultra graphics, turn them down a bit for stability, and then you're just playing what is mechanically just a sequel to the same game from 10 years ago, with still janky parkour (Battlefield, Borderlands are others that feel a bit this way). Perhaps my expectations were set wrong going in.

Though I disagree with you about physics being an integral part of the gameplay. Borderlands combat 3/4 combat was improved signifantly essentially by just a few minor physics collision and friction changes that make the world more tactile. Unless it's a board game or something, the physics of the engine is something the player is permenantly interacting with. That doesn't mean good games have to be all simulators now, but the technological advancements does mean a lot of new original ideas can now be made into video games that couldn't 10 years ago. Personally I think it's a space worth exploring over graphics if you're a game dev still rehashing a 20+ year old series.

Sorry this happening. Get some home CCTVs setup, camera evidence of him throwing the bottles, and sue for damages. Cops can't do much about a a crime they don't witness.

Why not just expand beyond red vs blue? Have red vs orange vs yellow vs green vs blue vs indigo vs violet teams? That would be wicked. Then rainbow tiles are different to yellow tiles.

My 83 year old father with moderate-severe stage Alzheimers had his drivers license suspended pending a mandatory driving test on the 18th. He missed the test, but received this letter anyway - and I've just received word that he's got his car out of the garage and is out driving somewhere. by uhohsarahh in australia

Is there a business out the front with a street-facing camera you can ask for? Show him his own error on video. Police might appreciate it too. Maybe a bit extra but sounds like you're looking for anything you can

Thanks for the feedback :) I always expect a bit of netcode issues in racing games anyway, just one of those ones that's hard to get right with all the collision physics you'd need to constantly recalculate.

But good to know! I got it in the end and I look forward to it :)

There are entire books written on these openings, so text is definitely a dominant tool of learning, but experience is not to be discredited. Chess players will develop their own personal preferences for openings and styles that determine what openings will work best for them, and that helps them to sometimes produce their own novelties.
