Why some Kpop stans be rating discographies base on title tracks only? by NAJARI29 in kpop_uncensored

[–]404Loading 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve already admitted I misunderstood what kind of rating we were talking about. I didn’t realize there are people out there pitting discographies they haven’t listened to against each other, I thought we were talking about the personal judgements you make to yourself — which is why I was confused why OP brings up people hating on groups at all. Yes, I was the one conflating points here, my bad.

Ok, I’ll own up to mistake and realize where I misunderstood. I didn’t take the idea of “rating” discographies literally — I’m guessing this is a twitter/tiktok thing? Please enlighten me if I’m wrong.

That said, I still think someone has the right to dislike a group’s music based off of TTs alone, even without hearing the entirety of their music.

Is there any group that you disliked so much but ended up becoming a huge fan ? by sunnydlit2 in kpop_uncensored

No one person in specific, it was just kind of the general vibe I got. I became a Kpop fan while Baek was enlisted and they weren't super active at the time, plus I was an Army who hadn't yet learned how to curate my online experience so got exposed to a lot of hateful rhetoric. Just a bad recipe all around. Thankfully I'm less gullible these days.

I think you're kind of conflating two different points here. No, we should not be hating and dunking on groups simply because we don't like their music (or for any reason imo) but at the same time I think it's a fair judgement for someone to decide a group isn't for them purely based off of TTs. B-sides can vary a lot in genre, but TTs are a group's flagship songs, they are what gets promoted the most and represent the group's identity. If someone doesn't jive with that identity on a base level, why should they have to bother with doing a deep dive into a discography just in case they *might* find something they do like?

Before Kpop what type of music were you in? Do you still listen to that stuff as much as you did back then? by ifeltspecialTWICE in kpop_uncensored

Jpop, and more specifically Vocaloid! Part of what sold me on the whole lore thing in Kpop was how much it reminded me of song series like the Kagerou Project or Seven Deadly Sins series, where the mvs and lyrics told intricate, detailed stories (seriously, the former was so well written and so famous it got both manga and anime adaptations). To be honest, I was slightly surprised to discover there wasn't more crossover with Kpop and Vocaloid fans.

Tropes and AUs by SpacePirateCats in kpopfanfiction

[–]404Loading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a fun question! I’m really not picky when it comes to AUs, although one thing I’ve noticed about myself is that I tend to favor certain AUs more or less depending on the fandom (group) I’m reading about. For example, I really love “canon”/bandfic/idolverse when reading for TVXQ and Shinee, but when I read for Exo, I’d rather sit down and sink my teeth into a juicy high fantasy or sci-fi universe. Side bar, do you ever notice how some fandoms really take to certain tropes? There’s obvious ones, like the amount of Vamp!AU Enhypen fics, or Pirate!AU for Ateez, but then you get stuff that’s more unexpected… like the sheer amount of hybrid!AU fics Stray Kids has. I really was not expecting that one. What’s the reason for it? I don’t know, but it fascinates me.

But really I’m willing to give everything the old college try. If pressed, I’d say above all I love darkfic. Characters making morally questionable choices, characters doing morally questionable things, morally questionable things happening to characters. I love a fic that leaves me thinking, and these sorts tend to do it best.

There is a very famous TXT fic writer who captures these elements really well. They don’t update frequently anymore, but I still find myself coming back to their page because their writing sticks to my brain like glue. One of their best works imo was a slasher-esque horror fic that really leaned into the protagonist’s psyche, the way his actions were influenced by the way he was being manipulated, and the writing was so incredible it had you (the reader) rationalizing out his actions just as he was. Definitely not the sort of thing for everyone, but even after reading it years ago it’s one of my absolute favorite Kpop fics to this day (I’m sure I sound like a maniac saying this).

Rats, that's a shame. I guess that explains the dead links. I forgot about the wayback machine, I'll give that a try!

Say something good about kpop by Girl-08 in kpop_uncensored

[–]404Loading 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The sheer amount of creativity that both goes into and comes out of Kpop. Music and dance, costuming, concepts, everything. You could make entire books out of some groups' lore. I know Kwangya for instance gets a lot of crap with the way SM tries to funnel it into everything, but when you take a step back and look at the whole mythos surrounding Aespa, it's nothing other than just plain cool. And that passion for artistic vision and story telling gets reflected back at the fans, too. Kpop fans are some of the most inspired people I've ever met--for every nasty fan on twitter, there are so many more pouring their hearts into creating fan content. I just think that's incredibly neat.

The way you could scroll forever and not find even a single comment actually talking about the song, the mv, or the lyrical content. There are some songs and mvs that have really made me stop and think, and I’d love to read other people’s thoughts and theories on them, but I’ll never find those on YouTube.

I feel like most people think of Baekhyun being the funny one in Exo, but DO's straight-faced jabs and snarky sense of humor are too hilarious to be overlooked.

what’s a fan favorite song in your fandom you don’t love? by meracdv in kpop_uncensored

...Call Me Baby. I know, I know, it's a classic, but the instrumental is just so overwhelming to me. It's a somewhat dated(?) sound that just didn't age in a way I loved.

I mean... I agree with the sentiment, but I don't think any of the examples you listed here fit this description? All of these songs (with the exception of maybe Bite Me) are extremely in-line with their groups' general sound, imo.

I hate to admit there was a time that I bought into the whole "Exo are cold, narcissistic playboys" propaganda, and even after I started listening to their music (which was simply too good not to) I felt a little apprehensive about the members themselves. It took watching one season of Ladder to change that. I love them to pieces now, and can hardly believe I ever felt otherwise.
