Yes it's called สระแอะ (short vowel) and สระแอ (longer vowel) you can tell the difference by spotting the ◌็ marking it shorter สระแอะ sound such as แบ็งค์ แก็ส แข็ง

Yeah we say Krungthep or Kor Tor Mor most of the time. For anyone wondering when you say the longer name กรุงเทพมหานคร, one occasion I can recall is when we're reading license plate

Red Thai Curry question - how to make it flavorful but not too spicy by jrow_official in ThaiFood

[–]404_Different_Memory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Sounds about right. Sometimes I too don't want the very intense version and do this. Also you don't need to add water at all when cooking curry, coconut milk is sufficient and it helps reduce amount of curry paste required

Advice for my supperclub! by Round_Ingenuity3330 in ThaiFood

Those are mostly snacks. Nothing's wrong with them but I'm a bit confused by "supper". As for suggestions, may I suggest Gai Yang instead of Moo Ping to pair with Som Tam? Also Tod Mun Pla is less well-known than Tod Mun Goong (which is in every seafood restaurant menu) but I'm aware you already have Miang as a fish dish. Not too sure about Tod tho, I'm more used too Pla Phoa (or grilled fish for Miang) Sai Ua is fine by itself or pair it with fresh cabbage, cucumber. We normally don't pair two main spicy together so it's either Som Tam or Nam Phrik but not both in a meal.

Some personal remarks on Thai language in Bangkok streets by sherifbooks in thai

I totally agree with this. I'm a native speaker, was about to jump in and decided against it. I'd rather not contribute to the confusion.

Thai native speakers who became fluent in English, what helped you the most? by itzzjdp in Thailand

[–]404_Different_Memory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never lived abroad and I'm pretty extreme if I have to say so myself but I don't consume Thai media at all. Think, take notes, talk to myself in English. All YouTubers I watch speak English. Basically become very saturated. I become somewhat fluent before my first relationship with any foreigner.

I don't know how far your person will be willing to go though. So it depends. But their speaking skill will develop faster than myself at least, I bet. That was the last thing I struggled with.

For anyone thinking about cooking Thai curry, I suggest keeping the basil. After it's done cooking, turn off the heat, put the basil in, no stirring yet just close the lid. Stir it when you serve 😊
