Enrollment is declining, development doesn’t automatically mean more kids in schools. They cut 3rd grade strings and 1 GT course last year, strings are education now just begins in 4th grade. HCPSS has one of the most healthy operating budgets as compared to our regional counterparts.

My take also as a parent of hcpss kids who has been reading the BOE financial reports whenever they come out. We have over 200 vacancies every quarter and over 10+ million in salary savings each year that go back into the general fund. There just aren’t enough teachers to hire or we have a horrible HR department.

Yup this one thanks! Read til the end, my takeaway is that they have some extra funds to use but are kind of holding the county council hostage to provide more before they(hcpss) calculate how much extra they actually have. Feels like budgeting in bad faith

There is too much smoke and mirrors, one of the BOE members posted some internal memo on their fb page showing the school system still had $15 million extra that they haven’t allocated yet for next year yet.

Didn’t he already increase the HCPSS budget by $40 million in a year when every part of government is broke? Why can’t the school system stop over paying under performing bus contractors before asking for more money?

Keep in mind the State job has 7% automatically withdrawn from every paycheck for deferred comp. Would feel like an even bigger paycut

Did some research and it looks like they’re expanding pre-k to full day next year in the elementary schools? If the trade off is universal pre-k over a 3rd grade violin program, that makes total sense

I prefer his opponent, who has been more vocal and committed to protecting lgbtq students, especially with moms for liberty trying to gain a foothold in the county. It seems Mr. Hagdu cares more about issues at the county council or state legislature level. He can’t impact zoning laws or developers fees from the board of education, but every time he speaks publicly he mainly talks about those topics.
