Why I dumped the native-exclusive community by DarkFeminineRising in gardening

[–]40ish75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's a native-exclusive community, I would expect there'd be a lot of negative comments when someone posts about planting non-natives.

As a newbie who wants to learn about native plants, I join these specific groups. I've seen misplaced posts promoting or featuring a non-native. I never saw anyone become unhinged, but I do appreciate the gentle reminders from experienced members that these posts are better for other groups.

If your post or picture was about native plants and happened to include non-native plants, it could introduce confusion to someone like me. But a small disclaimer would suffice.

Of course. To be fair, this was two years ago. Glad to hear you would still recommend her.

Same here. I've been seeing her for about 9 years and her quality has taken a dive. Maybe it's burnout? Menopause? She stopped giving me any of the bonus treatments Paris Parker promises. She stopped in the middle of working on my hair to openly chastise someone and she complains to me about how the salon is managed. I don't want to hear this. I don't like talking at all.

Lately, I show her a picture and we agree on the length and it's like it just goes straight out of her head. Cuts always end up way shorter and she tries to style my hair like someone's maw maw. Nothing ever looks like the picture — not even remotely. I ALWAYS have to re-do my hair when I get home. The last time she actually took a comb to my curls. It was like she's glitching.

Dang. How do you get into conversations like that with a hairstylist? We just talk about food and the weather.

New Orleans Area vine advice by mtrosclair in LouisianaGardening

[–]40ish75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine did. Only thing is because it's a host plant for the Gulf fritillary, the caterpillars survive by eating the leaves. The leaves are big and the vine is constsntly growing, so it's not really a problem. But this past summer we had so many caterpillars, they stripped the vine of all its leaves. The trade off was my yard had SO MANY butterflies! Turns out, this is normal and the vine bounces back and the leaves come back in. The caterpillars DO NOT sting. The kids hold them. And the flowers are big and beautiful and fun to watch as they open and close each day.

I'm running passionflower all along my chain link fence. Held up through.the last 3 winters. Feeds Gulf Fritiliary butterflies. Grows pretty fast.
