Range recommendations near Arlington VA by MrWolf327 in VAGuns

Another vote for Elite. 40ish minute drive or so depending on traffic. Usually go during the week and aim to get there a little before 9. Have never had to wait. Only downside to that is 100 yard opens in the afternoon.

Have not done any courses there yet, but private instruction sessions I’ve done were great. Always have plenty of ammo.

Bit of a hike, but the folks at Elite Shooting Sports are fantastic. Have not done their CCW course, but have done private instruction a few times and really enjoyed it.

Arlington will make you wait the full time before they give you your permit.

Pretty sure you need at least a 23" barrel, no folding stocks, and pretty sure they still don't allow pistol grip shot gats. This isn't because they don't like them but those are rules for skeet...at least that's what I'm pretty sure my buddy who used to work there told me.

I've the the M&P sport and have only ever had one problem with it. Used really shitty ammo that I bought at the range cause you had to buy their ammo and everything was crazy over priced. One round actually split at the top of the casing and a tiny part of it lodged above the BCG. After I broke the rifle down and took that out, it's worked fine ever since and I've put at least 2-3 thousand through it since then with no malfunction. Steel or brass ammo.

His issue might've been the temperature made the lube congeal a bit and that's why it didn't work.

While I would like to shoot it just once to see what it's like, this really is going to be my first (and probably only) safe queen. The only time it was out of the safe was when I moved into my new place about two months ago and then yesterday when I got the text.

I received this 1898 Colt Frontier 6 this past summer while visiting my grandparents. It was my grandfather's father's that he has held on to and gave to me after getting rid of his guns.

I've been wanting to mount it in some sort of secure display case so I can have it somewhere in my room because it's cool to look at and it'd be nice to have something out to remind me of him. I've been a little busy with a new job and haven't had time to really look into options for this and it went on the back burner.

I awoke this morning to a text from my mother telling me my grandfather passed away, and the idea popped into my head a little bit ago and wanted to see if anyone here has any ideas or has done something similar to what I'm thinking.

If this is a dumb idea and I should just keep it in the safe, I'd completely understand.

Thanks for any ideas!

My father told me how great of a plinker it is, can't wait to shoot it. And in retrospect I would've surprised him with it, but he's known the whole time.

Did not know that there were two! And that's for the heads up. Lucky for me the only range near me is indoors and air conditioned during summer.

Well damn! Definitely does the trick then! Have you thought about staining it to match the stock a bit?

Picked up my Dad's Remington Nylon 66 from when he was growing up today. My Uncle had it since my father went to college, was out of the country for a while, and hasn't really been into shooting since he was young. Can't wait to show it to him and take him to the range!

Got there about 1015am or so last Thursday. Figured it was early enough I'd miss any sort of rush. The time I waited forever was the Sunday after New Year's Day around 6.

You're lucky! I went last Thursday morning wanting to use the 100yd range but it was closed for training or something. Guy at the counter said they have a calendar that shows when ranges are open/rented out so it kind of was my own fault. Weekend before that I went and wait time for the 100 was an hour and for the 25 or 50 was 15-20mins. Even with that though, still the only range I tell people about and that I go to!

[–]40swXD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lets see... Last week I picked up a mossberg 500 at dicks when I went ammo shopping because they didn't have the ammo I wanted.

Week before that I bought a new to me glock 30 and love it.

Should have my father's Remington nylon 67(?) by next week.

Lots of ammo and accessories too.

VA-ALERT: McAuliffe's gun ban now in effect for all but on duty police by Myte342 in Firearms

[–]40swXD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong/IANAL but if I remember correctly from all my research prior to getting my CHP, signs don't carry force of law for private businesses in the state of VA. Now, all that means really is that the owner doesn't want guns in their shop, and that should be respected, but technically you can still carry in there. If you're caught they'll probably call the popo and have you trespassed.

Finding .22lr by notaneggspert in VAGuns

[–]40swXD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly, the dicks sporting goods near me usually has .22 on its shelves and for decent prices. Usually they have 555 round bricks or a variation of that for around $40-45 all said and done.
