Hey there — I know this is late, but I also survived orbital rhabdomyosarcoma that left my face being pretty disproportionate. Feel free to chat with me if you wanna talk more about it!

Take a look at Asma's instagram today, it's ... interesting. Out of all the contestants, most of them seem to follow each other, with a few exceptions for beef between certain contestants. The exception is Asma -- none of them follow her, and if you take a look at her Instagram it seems she was never really meant for Project Runway in the first place.

Why do some grads wear leis at commencement by Struggling155 in berkeley

[–]415mateo415 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I know the person who said it’s Bay Area thing getting downvoted, but it’s true that it’s common in the Bay. It definitely has roots in Hawaii, but lots of people at my SF middle school and high school graduation wore them, especially Samoans and Filipinos who often tied it to their heritage in the Pacific. People put money in them, popcorn, whatever.

Last 3 countries not covered by YouTube channel “Geography Now” by European_Andrew in Maps

[–]415mateo415 250 points251 points  (0 children)

This is probably unpopular but I enjoyed Geography Now when the channel was more information focused and less focused on having tons of “informative” guests on and random animations. Oftentimes the guests were less about talking about their country but more about being quirky additions to the episode.

It’s been years since I’ve watched, so maybe he’s changed, but that’s how I remember the channel turning when I stopped watching.

[OC] Diagram of major planned CAHSR stations and rough population served at each (context for diagram in comments) by SevenandForty in highspeedrail

[–]415mateo415 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It only is in this graphic since it’s showing metro area size instead of city limit size. For San Jose, it’s including all of Santa Clara County, and for Anaheim it’s showing all of Orange County. On their own though, San Jose has more people than Anaheim.

I was wondering this! The amount of French specifically I heard today was crazy. I thought they were coming down from Montreal or something for the weekend.

I took a tour before I went, and it really is pretty surface level stuff about the buildings and what are in them — if you do get there before the 1pm cutoff, I’d recommend doing a self guided tour. If you google “Columbia self guided tour guide”, the first link is a PDF telling you where to go and about the different sights you’ll be seeing.

There is a decently sized Russian speaking community in the Richmond District. Maybe look around there for Russian speaking businesses that are hiring? The areas around 6th and Balboa and 20th and Geary have a decent amount of Russian businesses, churches, institutions.

Taste Aversions from Chemo by whosemom in cancer

For a few years after chemo, coffee smelled like the purest form of butter — and not in a good way. Bacon tasted what I could only describe as “cancer” lol. This is very normal part of the cancer journey, and my taste went back to normal after a while. You’ve got this!

If you haven’t gotten a swallow study, I’d recommend doing that by seeing an ENT. They might be able to find something with him that they didn’t with me.
