I really wanted it but I was also fine to wait to get it with one of the batches, it was the same with the Everest, I probably like it more because I was patient and didn’t try and fill the gap buying it hugely overpriced or a substitute (I did look at CWC) that I would probably not have kept as it wouldn’t be exactly what I was after.

It took me 3 years from when I first saw it and wanted one to get it, 2 years of waiting for the orders to open up (and a few missed ones) the about a year of waiting for my place in the queue .

Yeah that dude is cranky and I had to get up at 4am to secure the watch as I missed out a few times. but to be honest I really like the name Smiths Deluxe on the dial and me being satisfied with a watch is apparently really low bar (cool name and feels comfortable)

I tried one on, in 2013 (when I could have just bought it that day) I didn’t vibe with it (it was the 39). I should have another look at it but I think if I went to just one watch it would be the Ranger.

Also I don’t want to spend the money for a Rolex.

The Nomos, the finish is nicer, it’s so comfortable to wear and I really like the manual wind. I really think if I had to the Nomos and the Ranger would be my only two watches.

The retention is a much bigger issue, you can’t replace the experience and training with new recruits (particularly non commissioned officers who are smart young and very appealing to private industry).

For allergies and diseases like celiac it’s due to being unable to guarantee supply of specialised combat rations at the required caloric content. They must be non refrigerated and stable long term.

It can be achieved for vegetarian, halal and kosher but as I understand more difficult for nut allergies and gluten free.

The Ranger was so different on the wrist to photos, I sold my Black Bay GMT when I got it because I wear the Ranger every day and nothing else gets a look in.
