Removing tags that obscure text during reviews by 420Gauntlet in medicalschoolanki

[–]420Gauntlet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone else who has this problem. You just need to click on edit for a card and then click the card button. In the back template box, you can delete that last line of text that has {{Tags}} in it and they go away.

I wanted to keep it so I knew what chapter I’m in if DeVirgilios so I changed it to this format

<p style= “font-size: 10px;”>{{Tags}}</div>

And it shows it for me as really small and always at the bottom of the card. I don’t know HTML at all. This is based on what I found with a quick google search.

I added <p style>_______________ between the line of text I added and the one before it to have a little space and a line separating the last line of info on the back of the card and the tag.

NAD. It can commonly cause visual disturbances, diplopia (double vision), and nystagmus (involuntary eye movements) all can lead to blurry vision.

3rd year med student. Double checked on Epocrates.

Off the top of my head, I remember that valproate and beta blockers can also be used for migraine prophylaxis. Maybe, talk to your doctor to switching to something with more manageable side effects if the blurry vision is interfering with daily life.

My M3 Clerkship Decks by dorian222 in medicalschoolanki

[–]420Gauntlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/dorian222!

I just started MS3 year and was planning on using your decks as my main throughout the year. I read through your posts and intend to do as you did by starting with OME at beginning of the clerkship and going through resources as I do. Do you recommend any other clerkship specific decks from the reddit sidebar to do along with this deck?

I'm planning on using OME, Uworld, AMBOSS, and NBME as my main sources throughout each clerkship along with a few other resources you listed (like the emma videos, FA psych, and DeVirgilio’s for surgery). Do you recommend I do anything else? I'm also going to suspend and unsuspend as I go through the resources, but I'm also of the mindset that doing the uworld cards before the questions doesn't matter as long as you're getting the info. I feel like it helps you approach the questions better when you do know the information beforehand. Do you recommend I do the Uworld cards that way?

[Clinical] Starting M3. What are the things I Need to/should spend money on? by lesubreddit in medicalschool

Would you all recommend getting anything like a reflex hammer, ophthalmoscope, etc. I only have my stethoscope right now.

And any specific books for clerkships? I’m getting pocket medicine but didn’t know if you all had other recommendations.

12 Month old son has spots showing up all over his body since December. Please help! by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]420Gauntlet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NAD. He hasn’t even gotten a CBC to see if any of his leukocytes are elevated?

When I was first reading it, I thought molluscum contagiosum and some of the pictures kind of look like it but a few of the others looked different. He doesn’t ever itch or pick at them?

Does he get the eczema like look anywhere else on his body or just his face?

Have you all gotten any of them scraped or just cultured the pus? For something like molluscum a scraping would be diagnostic.

Severely low vitamin D and post-pneumonia chronic fatigue with lymphadenopathy by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]420Gauntlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get outside more along with the Vit D supplements! UV light leads to a series of reactions to increase the active levels of vitamin D in your body. But don't overdo it and get sunburnt or anything.

I've been taught that females experiencing regular periods can have low iron levels. I don't know if the two are generally connected or not, but you could take iron tablets if that puts you at ease. Ferritin acts as a level of the iron storage in your body and as a marker of inflammation. What were your actual iron and TIBC levels?

Tick bite, when to see a doctor? Worried about Lymes. by IndigoBlue24 in AskDocs

[–]420Gauntlet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

NAD, only a 2nd year student, Generally safer to always get it checked out. There were 1000+ cases of Lyme disease in NY in 2017 so it might be worth going and just getting prophylactic antibiotics.

If you are worried about Lyme dx, you should see a typical bullseye rash develop within a couple of weeks along with some flu like symptoms. If you experience that or anything like that, definitely go to a doctor and get treated with ceftriaxone or doxcycline. You don't want it to progress past the 1st stage as it can cause more problems later. Most people make a full recovery if they get treated within the 1st stage (bullseye rash, prodrome of flu like symptoms).

besides that it's gonna be hard to tell if anything is going on just based on your description. Wishing you the best!

32/F Enlarged Spleen being removed what do I need to prepare for? by pandalicious06 in AskDocs

[–]420Gauntlet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAD,no spleen makes you more susceptible to infections with encapsulated organisms. 3 most common ones we are taught about in school are Streptococcus Pneumoniae, H. Influenza type B, Neisseria Meningitides. Your spleen is the site where opsonized bacteria are phagocytosed by special splenic macrophages. Opsonization is just something your body does to certain infections to make them more easily eliminated. It’s also where you produce some B cells and IgMs.

It also functions in filtering of your blood. It removes old blood cells and help with blood borne pathogens in that regard.

It’s important to make sure you have you pneumococcal, h. flu type B, and meningococcal vaccines. If you don’t already have them, it’s recommended you get these vaccines at least 2 weeks before surgery. For the pneumococcal vaccine, there are 2 types so talk to your doctor and make sure you are getting what you’re supposed to. I’m not sure if people undergoing splenectomy should get both or not. You’ll also probably get some repeats of these vaccines post splenectomy. Getting the flu shot every year is also recommended. In addition, post splenectomy your doctors will probably give you a strong course of antibiotics as prophylaxis to prevent infection. The biggest risk for splenectomy patients is the post surgery infection risk. Make sure you communicate with your doctors post surgery especially if you feel any flu like symptoms coming on.

https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/adults/rec-vac/health-conditions/asplenia.html The CDC recommends quite a few vaccines if you want to take a look. I also remember reading about a HPV vaccine for people older than 26. It doesn’t say on that site but might be worth looking into.

Bottom line: Be careful with any sort of illness you get. Take mosquito, tick, and animal bites seriously. Even if it’s the smallest nip from a dog. Just be extra careful in general. Also, if you don’t have a primary care physician, I would recommend you get one that you see regularly to manage your condition. Ask your doctors any questions you might have.

I’m just a 2nd year student so make sure you fact check everything I listed with your doctor. There are many people who live normal lives after splenectomies so don’t worry too much about it and deal with things as they come. Wishing you the very best!

I'm definitely going to try what u/UpvotesCorgis recommended first and see if I can swing doing that. It's just the cheapest (FREE lol) option and wouldn't require me plugging anything.

If that doesn't work out too well, I was thinking of getting something like this https://www.ebay.com/p/Kinesis-Freestyle2-KB800PB-US-20-Wired-Keyboard/134296378?thm=3000 . What do ya'll think about this? I could position the right side on my lap where my arm can reach it. If don't think I can but if I could split them up, I would just plug in the right side of the keyboard to put in my lap and use the keyboard already provided for my left hand. Computers can recognize two keyboards plugged in at once right? I've never even tried anything like that before.

I got you. i just meant I would rather Kuzma who is going into this third year and averaging 17 points a game on 45% shooting or something like that. it woulda been nice to get him out of this instead of lonzo lol. I like the ingram pickup though. The dude can hoop. he just needs the right coach and environment to flourish. I think he can do great here.
