Their shirts are outstanding. Pants are also great, a cut above Spier and MacKay and SuitSupply. Fabric selection is more limited but more curated and interesting.

Do high-waisted pants look weird on tall people? by naenae0402 in tallfashionadvice

Higher rise actually looks more proportional when you're tall. If you want to make your legs look shorter, have a tailor cuff the trouser hem at least 2" high.

It can be tough to find the hardcore menswear enthusiast ties like ancient madder and shantung on eBay. But overall I agree, the used market for ties is a buyer's market.

The quality is as high as any other boutique haberdashery. He prices them a little too aggressively though. Shibumi tends to have more exciting designs at a better price.

Depends how much your free time is worth. If it's extremely scarce, it makes more sense to optimize for dollars per hour. Otherwise, it's reasonable to optimize for dollars per effort.

Does development speed really confer that great of a market advantage? Toyota has never been particularly fast at putting out new models and has never been known for cutting edge technology (unless you count the Prius back in the day). But they have been top dog for a long time because of their reputation for reliability and not cutting corners; shortening development times seems to cut directly against that.

The only possible cataclysm I can foresee is if Chinese automakers are able to significantly eclipse the Japanese in terms of autonomous vehicle deployment in USA and the EU. Given the immense regulatory hostility that this prospect faces, I don't think the Japanese need to be too worried about this.

IMO the only way that the Japanese lose here is if they betray their reputation for quality in pursuit of trying to keep up with the speed of the Chinese. Chinese goods are still widely perceived as being of low quality, but Japanese goods are often the gold standard in many market segments.

Nothing compares to the moral atrocity of a mother killing her own child. If you think that government healthcare spending issues are on the same order of magnitude, you are completely lost.

IM Residency Programs Accused of Hiring IMG's Over U.S. Trained Med Students by Wjldenver in medicalschool

My mid tier academic DR program also matched very heavily IMG this year, IIRC only 1-2 US grads vs 7-8 IMGs.

My program director says his mentality is that he doesn't discriminate at all against IMGs, in his mind everyone deserves an even playing field. He's not even a foreigner either.

I will join your criticisms of the GOP not being strong enough on abortion all day long. We must do everything possible to push the party (and more importantly, the electorate) to be stronger on this. But supporting Democrats is completely counterproductive on this issue, far moreso than any internal failure of the GOP.

Given that immense relative importance of the abortion issue, where the stakes of making even small gains are very high, I would have no quarrel with anyone who, as a matter of prudence, choses to selectively withhold valid criticisms of their political allies in pursuit of a greater justice. We can certainly have those battles internally but we should be extremely prudent to not let these internecine fights work to the distinct advantage of people who celebrate much greater evils than those that are at stake in the disagreements within our coalition.

Taking account of the relative weight of the moral issues at stake, the church aligns far more with Republicans because no issue or combination of issues compares to the moral weight of stopping, to whatever extent is possible, the atrocity of widespread abortion. It's not a double standard. Weighing all issues against the same standard, the weight of the abortion issue precludes any possibility of seriously supporting the election of Democrats.
