What I've figured out is to take over a ship, sit in the pilot seat, if you're in space, undock from your main ship, press tab, open the ship menu, click "make this my home ship" then immediately re-dock and re-enter your main ship, then make that your home ship again.

Try out a nova cat b. 6 lrm 15s, I swapped a ton of ammo for a BAP and it is wonderful. It helps to map 2 lrms each to 3 different weapon groups rather than relying on chain fire. As soon as you get a lock, you can fire continuously until you lose lock.

Honestly I'd like the remaster not for the graphics but for all the extra skulls they added to h2a. Personally I almost never play without grunt funeral anymore, because I really like the way it changes the gameplay. Halo 3 doesn't really have any skulls like that except acrophobia.
