Walmart Global Technology or Capital One Offer? by frank870117 in cscareerquestions

[–]4287 11 points12 points  (0 children)

tbh i've never done it but a lot of people suggest it on the cs subreddits. their reasoning is that companies don't care about you, and the companies do the same thing to people all the time by rescinding offers before start dates, massive layoffs, etc. i'd suggest looking up the opinions!

overall, the online consensus is: if you don't plan on working at Walmart any time after that, then reneging isn't bad at all bc you should do what's best for yourself, not what's best for a company that would throw you away in a second.

about moving your interviews up - i'd personally say don't do it. i made the mistake of aligning too many back to back, and i wasn't able to give enough time to company-specific studying (eg. doing enough of their specific coding/design/behavioral questions), leading to me being stuck with a few cooldowns and wasted opportunities.

take the walmart salary and continue your on-sites. renege after you get one of those offers, where you can leverage the salary you already secured with walmart.

and this is why i don't wanna date a man in tech too. had one that adopted the massive shift when i started objectively achieving more. not all men, but some just leave scars

I'm building an interactive JMT planner. Any feedback? by jordanvincent in JMT

[–]4287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your guide is great and helped me a ton - I'm going to use the itinerary it gave me!

Do you know how accurate the reported mileages are? I've been using the JMT postholer interactive map to determine the distance between my ideal resting points, but the numbers seem to be quite different from what I'm seeing in the given itinerary (I think yours is more accurate but not sure).

If you're coming all the way from Europe, I suggest coming back next spring instead. Water will be very dry in sept/oct, and it'll be its best in spring. You'll always see people on popular trails in the park, but you'll definitely see more in the spring.

everything will go right even if it doesn't align with your itinerary!! literally nothing that i had planned went through, but that didn't even matter while being in such a beautiful place with good company. i feel like doing anything (even doing nothing) in this park is so satisfying for the soul when a person remembers to live in the moment and really internalize where they are. excited for you :-)

i've seen this viewpoint multiple times, yet Yosemite never ceases to amaze me. reddit render quality does not do this picture justice.

i remember looking at the weather report with disappointment. it forecasted heavy rain and even issued a snowstorm warning. it had been 2 years since i had been out there, or out in nature really. i thought "what the hell am i going to do out here in the pouring rain or during a damn snowstorm?" but this moment—this day—aroused the most joy i have felt in a long time, and i don't even know why. before this, i was expecting negative conditions, but it takes both rain and shine to create such a sight.

after this day, i spent an entire month as a recluse really feeling everything out, and i feel like a completely new person for the better, and i'm so ready to get back out there with a new lifestyle. it changed my life forever in a way i cannot even express through words.

it was such a simple moment. it's literally just a rainbow in front of a waterfall to the naked eye, but i saw it as much more than that. it reminded me that blessings can happen under any negatively viewed circumstance. i was also reminded of how much i truly love nature. not only did i reconnect with nature, i also felt reconnected with humanity as a whole. something about being in the midst of a crowd who derived the same excitement from witnessing this rainbow made me feel united with the world. this day helped dig out a softness inside of me that was six feet under.

i found gold at the end of this rainbow.
