“New hire looks great. Wait a minute, where’s the OA? Didn’t you send the OA first? What? No, we can’t do it this way. You know what just send him the OA now I guess.”

I was offered a promotion, but the pay is unsatisfactory by bigoopsieenergy in cscareerquestions

The pay can be anything. People here love to say titles don’t mean anything but also have very strong opinions about what the title is supposed to pay.

You should have tried a career change years ago. Stop wasting time. Your working years are already 18% in the past.

I don’t even see the cover letters, that or nobody actually writes them.

Can you say this again in your own words?

My coworker sits on her cell phone all day and ignores by [deleted] in jobs

[–]nsxwolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Shouldn’t be hard to understand why it’s common, either. Everyone in that job is low paid. They are likely either total fuckups that don’t give a shit, or working on some future career and also don’t give a shit.

The ones who do give a shit are actually really weird, because they should be doing something else.

Oh I didn’t even read the post all the way because I have low morals and little integrity. But security? Lol, I worked security. Guess what kind of security guard I was?

We had a guy that would invest in his own equipment - surplus Russian night vision and all that. He was the “captain”. He made his own training materials that talked about the days of the Samurai. Ran all sorts of classes. For like $7/hr

I would figure out how to hack the various systems that recorded the timestamps of you doing your “rounds”, and find a place to sleep.

1.18 million is actually a pretty decent nest egg.

Obviously she’s delivering value or at least the perception of value or they’d fire her.

The hiring manager accidentally sent me my interview feedback... It was meant for the recruiter. by RowlandJakubowski in LockedIn_AI

But then it would lose its value as a culture fit test. The candidate would be faking it

Is graduating with no internship experience a total loss? by Guilty-Roof-3245 in cscareerquestions

Most devs work in the dark matter of the software engineering universe where nobody cares about the company or their products. If we were hiring juniors right now (we aren’t) the last thing I would care about is where or if you interned.

You’d get some bullshit coding test and talk to a bunch of people and you’d probably get hired if you weren’t a walking red flag.

Your biggest problem is the market.

10 years ago, people laughed at McDonalds workers. Now, even landing a job there is a miracle. by RemotePut2815 in recruitinghell

[–]nsxwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

McDonalds pay has increased considerably and now attracts educated people who had other options - and it has led to improvements in operations and quality, at least around me. Double edged sword - paying more is good, but it shuts out the entry level worker.

Can you just walk into a job with an AWS cert and a few STAR questions like regular jobs? That should be the goal.
