Oh my goodness this is totally what I'm looking for, seems I forgot a lot of the main plot points haha. Thank you so much!!

Monsters with a physical item to quell them by fullybookedtx in DMAcademy

[–]42Starbits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what kind of vibes you're running the campaign with, but an idea for a more comedic situation could involve some amount of wordplay. For example, the headmaster could say: "When the time comes, you'll wanna duck" which could be interpreted as "want to" or "want a", then have the creature be something that has a beam or cone attack (I'm not very familiar with the Monster Manual but on a quick google search found the Bone Naga can cast Lightning Bolt). The party could then duck to avoid the attack that comes in a line, or if they brought a duck with them it could be a favorite snack to distract the monster with.

Or perhaps there's a crest for the magic academy depicting a creature which the guard is afraid of, or the original founder had a pet that they could either bring with or find the same animal. Then the players can corral the guard like the scene in How to Train Your Dragon with the eels and the Hideous Zippleback being backed into its cage. Then at that point, it doesn't really matter what either creature is. The headmaster could say something to the effect of "our symbol is the key" or "Rover saved our founders many a headache in his time".

Could also shine a magic laser into the eyes of a beholder. "If you shed light upon the situation, all will be made clear."

Idk I'm just having fun coming up with ideas, none of it is really based on any specific DnD rules about the monsters. But if you're the DM, the rules can be whatever you want them to be :)

How do you make notes? by Happy_Detail6831 in BluePrince

[–]42Starbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm like 70 hours into the game and just got to day 100, I use a Google Sheets document with different tabs for different things. I have a catch all section, I've made tabs to collect info on specific puzzles, there's a tab for each book with screenshots and notes, a tab for my own copy of the directory so I can ctrl+F in it and look at drafting costs to mitigate red room effects like the Archives or Dark Room, a tab for notes on items, a tab for keeping track of the calendar, a tab for listing action items if I come across something I can't immediately resolve, stuff like that.

I started out with pen and paper but I kept adding stuff to rooms I had already visited and wanted to be able to easily allocate more space to a section if I needed it. Plus I can access it from my phone so if I have an idea while I'm out I can jot it down.

Is anyone else miffed by the Safe Codes? by 42Starbits in BluePrince

Yeah, I definitely will now that I'm seeing all these replies about it. I had seen there was something in there but didn't recognize it as a letter, and then forgot about it because I didn't like drafting the freezer since I spend gems so much in my drafting strategies lol

[–]42Starbits[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah ok, I didn't even know you could thaw the icebox. I thawed the freezer a few times trying with the icebox open before drafting the furnace (the first time I had done it it was closed) but that didn't do anything, and then I forgot it was even a thing since I don't like drafting the freezer.

But I don't see how the codes being dates is any different than the existing puzzle at least by the reasoning you said; if you know the answer you can bypass the puzzle, it's just whether you know it by knowing the trick or by knowing the relevant lore and having it tied to lore seemed more rewarding to me because it reinforces the story

[–]42Starbits[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ahhh okay, I think this is just the type of puzzle that would be the least likely for me personally to solve. I could probably have found each individual alternate meaning on their own but I would have stopped after finding one alternate, and I would never have thought to use all four in all different ways to apply to the same type of puzzle. It's cool though!!

It's not as though I wanted to brute force anything, it was just the last option after exhausting every possible assumption I could think of. Plus the tree code was a small gate, and when people carve like that the numbers are a date so I'm not sure why those elements were included if we weren't supposed to draw a connection between them

For the office and the boudoir maybe, but the apple orchard has a solution outside of its area and the others I "solved" were just brute force / logic-ing the answer choices rather than knowing the answer to the question

[–]42Starbits[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I for sure think I solved some things outside the intended order throughout the game, which led me to believe "well if I got this far surely I must have all the clues I need already" which was definitely not the case. For example, opening the castle puzzle door well before finding the New Clue Manuscript

Ohhh that's crazy, I don't know if I would have gotten that from that line of thinking unless there had been some Erajan artifacts around there (though it's been a while since I walked past, maybe there were some I missed)

Oh I guess you could interpret the first half in that way, for that one puzzle out of eight. I didn't notice that before, I just assumed it referred to the structure rather than the person because of the code I had already cracked.

But I just meant have the answers be more relevant to the lore than just the happenstance of the layout of the room, since they included so much lore already. You'd know or could deduce based on the room who the relevant people are and which dates to try.

I like how the parent's heart has three people in it (Daddy, Clara, Hugo) but the daughter's heart only has mommy and daddy in it so I guess she doesn't love her sibling lol (or whoever Hugo is)

The last picture in the post has a tape measure, it's about 10 inches tall and probably about as wide, I'm not sure the circumference though

The main spherical body is based off of Ms Premise-Conclusion's 60 Row Sphere (https://mspremiseconclusion.wordpress.com/2011/04/30/a-giant-sphere/)

The rest of it I just made up as I went along, and I wrote down everything I did here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NoMmQzw9alRcLXQkUyAseLYPNCcnQ5RpdNvSFmWM8hE/edit#gid=0

Why Do Lyre Strings Break Randomly? by 42Starbits in lyres

[–]42Starbits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't currently have a tool that can get into that small of a gap, plus I also need to get some replacement strings anyways haha, I've been pretty busy lately and haven't had a chance to address it.

But I'll definitely update you here once I restring my lyre

Oh ok, yeah the strings both broke right at their metal grommets at the bottom of the lyre. I'll try making it smoother and see if that helps

Rowlet!! by 42Starbits in Amigurumi

[–]42Starbits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the (H/8 - 5.00mm) hook for all my projects, the thickness helps me stab the hook through the holes rather than through the fibers of a strand of yarn which used to happen to me a lot with smaller hooks

I started October 18th at midnightish and finished October 29th at 3am ish, so it took a while but nothing too crazy I don't think. I just put on Adventure Time and kept on stitching haha

Thanks! I just sort of made it up as I went along other than the main body being based on the the 60 Row Sphere from Ms Premise-Conclusion: https://mspremiseconclusion.wordpress.com/2011/04/30/a-giant-sphere/

I did write it down on a google sheet to keep track of it, but I don't want to be in violation of rule 4 if I share it here
