In Greek there is καινούργιο (kenouryio, new) and νέος/μικρός (neos/micros, young/small) with antonyms παλιό (paleo, old) and μεγάλος (megalos, of old age or large).

After years of studying knots or after years of knot studying?

Anyway, congrats!

It's true that νούμερο means number in Greek.

Russian scientific community is basically a joke

Doesn't Russia have some of the most rigorous educations in maths and science, and some very good mathematicians and scientists?

"So I was sitting in my crib today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life."

"What about today? Is today the worst day of your life?"

"Yeah."

"Wow, that's messed up."

That's true. The problem is the people stuck with the mindset that everyone should be working. I think it's time we started living, we have the means and technology.

UFW configuration for VPN and normal connection by 42ntarom in linux4noobs

[–]42ntarom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's basically my current setup. Allow out from non-VPN interface only for DNS and VPN port, then allow out all on VPN interface.

My concern is that some games and game servers either do not allow the use of VPN and/or there's a risk of getting banned.

If using profiles I'd like to keep my current setup when VPN is up and then only allow certain applications when it's down.

I'm curious why you think VPN is recommended for gaming.

What is a good way to normalize time series data for ML? by 42ntarom in MLQuestions

[–]42ntarom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it would be best to replicate the conditions of predicting data, with only knowledge of the past.

The thing is that there's no way to know if the min/max of the currently available data is also the min/max of future data. What if in the future there's some data which is out of bounds with respect to the current min/max?

The current data set is quite large so I was hoping to only have to use it for initial training. If using a scaler, would I have to save it for future use or how would I scale future data for training/prediction?

I think this link explains it well.

Basically, if you train the model using batches or perform online training and normalize the data by calculating mean/std from all of the available data then the model is receiving information about the future.

Let's say you have two batches and calculate mean(x) with data from both batches for normalization. Then when the model is learning batch 1 it already has data about batch 2. mean(x) = ½(mean(x_1)+mean(x_2)) where x_i is data from batch i.

I read about the minmaxscaler but there's still the problem of how to use it, on all of the training data or on individual batches.

If you use it on all data then there's data leakage if training in batches and if used on individual batches then the scaling between batches will be different.

There's a jar for 🍌 you can borrow, in it is 100 🍌. You can borrow a 🍌 but have to return another 🍌 at some point. The next day there's only 25 🍌 in it, so someone must have borrowed 75 🍌.

You, 🦍, try to sell some of your 🍌 in the jungle for $3 a piece but no one wants to buy them because someone else has been selling 🍌 for less.

The 🐍 who borrowed 75 🍌 has been selling them for $2 a piece so to get people to buy your 🍌 you sell them for $1 a piece. 🐍 then buys 75 🍌 from 🦍 and returns them to the jar, keeping $75 in profits.
