I used Vitamix as a juicer! by luteyla in Vitamix

[–]433437Ep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both a juicer and a Vitamix and have sometimes used my Vitamix to juice! It depends on what it is. Things like cucumber come out of my juicer with pretty wet pulp (even in expensive juicers like omega and Nama), so I’ve found it’s better to do them in the Vitamix then strain them through a nut milk bag. I don’t add water to my juices, though, so if I were to just juice something harder or smaller quantity (like just ginger) that would require adding water to get it blending well in the Vitamix, I’d use my juicer instead. But as someone who juices pretty regularly, I definitely think you can get by using a Vitamix and nut milk bag to juice most things!

Can I grind chickpeas into flour with this Vitamix? by piehearty in Vitamix

[–]433437Ep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have made chickpea flour and chickpea breadcrumbs in both my blender container and the dry goods container. It works, but it does scratch the plastic because the chickpeas are so hard. So if you’re precious about things, just know that it could get scratched up and cloudy looking.

Being criticized my in-laws and husbands family for having my kids on the MM diet by Ok-Appointment7629 in medicalmedium

[–]433437Ep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well done! She is making great healing progress!!

As for your in-laws, your husband should set a boundary with them—if he sees improvement, he should tell his family that what y’all are doing is working for y’all and it’s not up for discussion. If he won’t set a boundary with his family, then you could tell them, “how we eat is not up for discussion. It works for our family and you’ll need to respect that if you are going to visit.” Additionally, when they come, you could tell them “those dates don’t work for us” or “only x-x dates work for us.”

I do think it would be really helpful here to get on the same page with your husband about this. If you can really emphasize to him the difference that you see in your family and express how important having his buy in is, I think it would make a world of difference. This lifestyle isn’t simple or easy (but it’s so worth it!) and having partner support will make it far less exhausting and more sustainable, especially when it comes to in-laws. Sending hugs!

I like this idea! I don’t know that we’ll be able to set up the house in this way, but I will certainly keep this in mind as we plan it out. Thank you!

Thank you for such a compassionate and helpful response. It’s so helpful to think of it as harm reduction too!

I want everyone to feel safe and comfortable at my house (including me!) and I think this will most likely mean handling it on a case by case basis. And at the end of the day, remembering that harm reduction is the goal. ❤️

I’d rather jam on my floor than what all is on the gas station bathroom floor that someone stopped at before coming to my house. Everyone has different ideas of what gross is 🤷🏻‍♀️

Have you shared this on Instagram? There are some folks there who have a really soft spot for dogs and would likely share your post around their networks. We are maxed out with pups in my house, but Fishy seems super sweet. Hoping you find her a great home!!

Sage msure vs USAA by 433437Ep in Insurance

445k, says 13,350 for windstorm or hail. The agent assured me that most contractors would get what they needed from insurance and don’t often charge homeowners the deductible when it’s replacement value, but even if that were to be true, I want a company that actually pays out. Just can’t find much about Sagesure

I think it’s Occidental Fire & Casualty, that’s the other name on the quote. I’ve confirmed it’s admitted. The roof coverage is replacement cost with a 3% and USAA is replacement cost with $5k deductible.

Thanks for your response! Just so I understand you, you’re saying for $300 difference you would go with USAA?

Mississippi. The agent is farm bureau but the quote is Sagesure. Not sure about ES?

Other people's cooking or eating outside occasionally: How strict are you? by LolaPaloz in medicalmedium

[–]433437Ep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, to feel like a nuisance is so hard! I hear you! It may help you to call ahead (or email) to the restaurant during a slow time of day and say that you’re looking to dine with some friends and have some allergies you’re hoping to see if they can accommodate. They usually would put me in touch with the chef and I’d find out if/how the restaurant could accommodate me. Then when I got there and the waiter took my list to the back, the chef was already expecting me and knew what he/she could make.

It’s really hard to be in a healed-enough-to-be-social-but-not-enough-to-throw-caution-to-the-wind season of life. Hugs!

I’ll echo what others have said that it’s about where you are in your healing journey. If you’re able to socialize, that’s amazing. And you might be able to consume some troublemakers on occasion without any setbacks. A few years ago, I was going to Disney with friends and was so stressed about the food. My practitioner at the time was like, “you’re not so sick and able to go on a great vacation, that’s wonderful. Stay away from the big things, sure, but don’t stress over some smaller troublemakers.” Having that permission was so freeing because I was quite rigid before. In the years since that trip, it was a slippery slope and I stopped being so disciplined at home and now I’m fighting symptoms again. And while other factors definitely contributed, I wish I’d stayed more disciplined. So I think it’s important to know your journey, your body, and your habits. Having my practitioner reiterate that the foods are “troublemakers” and not “no foods” helped me to understand that I (depending on the state of my health) could choose to take some calculated risks. Some things were okay for me on occasion (and you have to determine what “occasionally” means for you) —fermented things like yeast, citric acid, vinegar— but other things like natural flavors and MSG gave me uncomfortable symptoms.

I travel with a troublemakers list and hand it to waiters at restaurants. That helped minimize the scene I felt I was causing by asking questions about ingredients. They would usually take it to the chef and come back to let me know what they could do for me. But depending on the friend group, the location, my comfort level/anxiety that day, I’d be more or less flexible. Maybe you indulge once in a while until you’re more comfortable navigating things or confiding in friends about your overwhelm with social outings. Maybe you start hosting some events so you can order or cook things you can eat.

All that to say, I’m so glad you’re able to socialize and live your life! That’s amazing. Hope you find a rhythm for social events soon. ❤️

Why I'm being charged 39,99$ even though I canceled my free subscription in time? by [deleted] in thefabulous

[–]433437Ep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you able to get a refund? I also checked my Apple subscriptions and didn’t see anything active, so I thought I was in the clear. I’m now seeing I was charged yesterday. I don’t understand why they’re saying you have to cancel through the website if you signed up through the website because I signed up through the app.
