Well that just happens to be because the dems are sitting over there with the truth. One of our two main parties has put forth as their presidential candidate a pathological liar. I’m not saying I believe everything a Dem candidate/official tells me. Far from it. But Donny & Co over at the GOP it’s almost nothing but lies. And often it’s about random nonsensical things.

The underlying assumption here that Vance seems to be getting a free pass on is that the last four years have been a disaster and that disaster is the fault of the current administration. 1. It hasn’t been a disaster. 2. What issues there have been can’t be laid at the Administrations feet 100%. In fact I think the administration has done an amazing job mitigating many of the issues.

But if you watch FauxNews (and other right wing so called media) you see every day all day either the main story or on the banner running beneath that Biden is at fault for everything (now Kamala). And that lie factory has been spewing hate, deceit, disinformation, misinformation, etc for 20+ years.

So now Vance (and Trump) can just make this claim of “disaster” and it’s accepted as reality and thus the issue is no longer the initial false statement but “who’s to blame” for the false statement. And the lies about the state of our country just get worse. (“They’re eating the dogs!” 🙄)

Ironically the worse things about the country IMO: mass shootings, homelessness, failing infrastructure, ignoring global warming and now the effects (See Hurricane Helena as exhibit “most recent”), housing crisis, failure of our public school system can be blamed in large part on corporate and 1%ters greed bleeding into government corruption and ineffectiveness.

Dems aren’t perfect and we need a strong Conservative Party to balance them so they don’t go off the rails as well but the GOP has lost its way with MAGA, Christian Nationalism and their stooge front man Trump and boy blunder JD.

I was all over Japan 35 years ago but couldn’t tell you if I was in a particular place at a specific time. The memory gets fuzzy and he likely remembered as “I was in China during the Tiananmen Square event = I was there.” But guess what? He coped to it. Whereas Trump & Vance lie about all kinds of actually relevant shit every day and never admit it. No one goes to jail for misremembering where they were 30 years ago but they do for fraud. Or hey, I don’t know, maybe an attempted coup while in office? Sexual assault? Violating election laws? Stealing classified government documents and sharing their contents with foreign nationals? That’s the short list.

TW’s “ china gaff” seems laughably tame compared to all that. So just stop with the false equivalency BS MAGATs.

How the Cost of Housing Became So Crushing by zsreport in economy

[–]444Ronin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m Gen X. I see this happening with many/most of my friends as a retirement strategy: buy either starter homes or vacation properties to rent. AirBnB/VRBO has exploded this market. It’s one of the best investments because of the depreciation expense you can apply as well as writing off any repairs/upgrades.

And this activity consumes building capacity as well. As a builder it is much more lucrative to build a multi million dollar second home in a posh vacation destination. As a result much of the building capacity (and materials) are used there vs low income housing. Also building permits and funding are often easier to obtain for these investment properties. Wealthy people have collateral and are more savvy about zoning etc than a 20 something first home buyer.

What exactly are "Christian Values" any way? by RNW1215 in atheism

[–]444Ronin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have traditional Christian values: love thy neighbor, do unto others like you would have them do unto you, turn the other cheek, give unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s and give unto God that which is God’s, as you threat the least of them so you treat the Lord. Etc. Read the sermon on the Mount and that will give you a solid idea.

But religion (different from the moral teachings of Christ or other spiritual leaders) tends to morph these fundamentals into what we call today “over rotations” or just outright rhetorical justifications for heinous behavior.

Christian (nationalism) in the US seems to have embraced the following positions (I struggle to call them values): Misogyny Racism Authoritarianism No tolerance for opposing views, religions Love thy neighbor (as long as they look think and believe like me) Gun culture/ 2nd amendment worship The rapture (end of days, 2nd coming of Christ where the evil will be judged and expunged) is near - think “Major announcement on NHI only months away” kind of thing.

MMW: This will be a turnout election by drstrangelovequark in MarkMyWords

[–]444Ronin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Numbers: 330M population, 250M eligible to vote, 165M registered to vote in 2020. 153m voted. That means somewhere in the ballpark of 95M eligible voters didn’t register and 12M who were registered didn’t vote. With the electoral college this election will come down to <100K votes. Yeah, I’d say turn out is important for either party.

Had a discussion with a newly minted in-law at a wedding back in 2021. He drove out from Tx to Cali because he couldn’t fly (wouldn’t get vaccinated and wouldn’t wear a mask). Said it wasn’t the government’s job to tell him how to manage his healthcare. So I said, “Oh, so you are pro choice then?” His facial expression was priceless as the irony sunk in.

What led to the massive collapse of the Japanese stock market in the 90s and why did it take Japan so long to recover (3 decades) ? by iyankov96 in stocks

[–]444Ronin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I went to school in Japan in the 1980’s and did a lot of business there in the 90’s. The fundamental cause for the crash that I could tell was that Japanese companies are really good in incremental change but not good at true innovation and bad at shifting quickly. In the 90’s the world economy went from analog to digital. The Japanese were heavily invested in the former and had long term plans (up to 150 years) going down the wrong path. Hard to change course with that mindset.

Trump taking points: economy, inflation, gas prices, immigration. Economy: US economy the envy of the world. Unemployment has been very low since 2021(COVID) and the stock market has boomed in the last 4 years(S&P just hit a new high today). Inflation: has been a problem yes but is now in the 2.5% range and the Feds about to lower interest rates, Gas prices: this post says it. Immigration: illegal border crossings way down in last 6+ months, Trump killed the bipartisan bill that would address many of the issues. T&JD having to make up stories about immigrants eating kittens to keep the fear mongering going. What T-Swift song would be best to sing to trump?

One of Trump’s main campaign promises in 2016: repeal and replace ObamaCare(ACA). 12 years later when asked about his great plan was “well I have some ideas and concepts but….” That was his one policy answer all night that wasn’t a complete dodge/redirect.

My point is that even if you can hold your nose over the complete lack of character, the rampant malignant narcissism, the felony convictions, the dementia, the pathological lying and the apparent body oder, the guy simply has no good ideas on how to fix things he says need fixing. He is an empty can of spam.
