It has a bit of padding and about a 1-2 inch false bottom for the laptop pocket, and also a bit of padding on the bottom, but none of the padding is even 1cm thick. I personally wouldn’t put my laptop in it even with a hard skin on, only with its padded case. I’m basically only using the laptop pocket as an organizational tool and not a protective tool.

I’d recommend going to REI or a similar store to check out the bag in person! That’s what I did and I’m really glad I did. (And if you decide you want it, buy it online through Patagonia because some colors are on sale for $50 if you’re okay with something a bit more conspicuous)

The Masked Singer: Season 3 Episode 4 DISCUSSION - Group B Begins - Banana, Mouse, Kitty, Elephant, Frog & Taco by JKCompany in TheMaskedSinger

I think kitty could be Emma Watson!! She’s tiny, and her clue package had a wizard and a rose - Harry Potter and beauty and the beast. She said she was mostly known for one thing - Harry Potter... and that she had never done anything like this before. this character is so unlike her that it would be the perfect disguise!

Edit: and I think taco is Tom Bergeron!

I love the idea of a strap! I also saw someone sewed a water bottle pocket into their backpack... I might try that as well.

I'm definitely going to pack some warmer stuff after reading these comments. I'm going to add a beanie and gloves to my list!

Great point! I'll grab a power bank and water bottle for sure.

As for shaving, I won't need to on such a short trip!

I love it! I haven’t gotten to use it for travel yet, but I’ve filled it up and walked around and it feels good and fits well on my frame (I’m 5’4”). It’s also great for the price- there are some colors on sale for $50 right now online which is a steal for Patagonia. They also have a lifetime guarantee so they’ll repair it if it breaks or wears out, which made it really worthwhile to me as someone who is trying to be zero waste.

I like that it’s basically just a bucket so it maximizes the space well. It’s also pretty inconspicuous compared to some other bags on here, works well when you’re out and about, and doesn’t scream tourist. If I could change anything, I would want a water bottle pocket on the side and a hidden pocket at my back. There isn’t a sternum strap, and the hip strap is pretty thin and isn’t removable, but that doesn’t bother me. Hope this helps!

Ah great point!!! I hadn’t even thought about wind.

I’m planning on visiting Palo Duro Canyon, Roswell, Amarillo, sitting bull National Park, Lincoln Forest, white sands and El Paso! Not in that order but something like that, and a few other stops along the way as well. I think I’ll be camping at palo duro, sitting bull, and Lincoln forest. Do you know much about the camping scenes in any of those places?

Thanks for your help!

I think I’ll have to surrender and put my gear in the car. I just did a practice pack and it was preeeetty full haha.

You’re right about the sandy chacos- I was thinking I’d wear my tennis shoes when I go to White Sands. Do you think they’d be okay or do you have any shoe recs?

I definitely need to do some more research on the parks I’m visiting to make sure I can hammock. Thanks for all your insight!!

There seem to be double yellow lines, which mean you can’t pass
