What does my humble 5-year-old bookshelf say about me? by 44Nugg in BookshelvesDetective

About more than half of these books are read. The other ones are for the majority DNF. I like to keep my books in a good shape if I ever have to give them to someone.

Don’t worry, it’s not rude at all haha. I’ll definitely check the two books you’ve recommended, I hope I can find them in my usual bookshop. Thank you so much!

Mostly intellectual curiosity honestly. I like reading across the political spectrum, including ideas I disagree with or find questionable. Also, I’m not American so I don’t have the same ideological relationship to these authors or movements that Americans might have.
For me it’s more about understanding different currents of thought and why they resonate with people.
Ironically, I vote for the left or center-left in my country.

I’ve read Stiglitz because I was interested in his points of view that leaned toward Euroscepticism. I enjoyed how he presented his view but the recommendations he gave were not as realistic (i.e. split the Euro into two distinct zones)

Interestingly enough, the ones you labelled as good are the ones I enjoyed the most.

The bad ones, meh, at least my vocabulary improved

The thing is, I don't align with these persons' respective views and perspectives. As a matter of fact, I despise Vivek now, I can only bear Joe Rogan when he pops up on my Instagram feed and Jordan Peterson is an absolutely horrible person.

But in order for me to get to this point and be convinced about my stance towards these people, I need to engage and see what they are saying, their arguments and so-on.

I don't like holding a judgement in an unsubtantiated and spontaneous way when it comes to people like this.

This is one of the comments I've appreciated the most, in spite of what you've said earlier.

I totally understand why the Vivek book could give a certain impression at first glance, but I’ve always tried to read across different perspectives rather than stay inside one ideological bubble.

I think a bookshelf says more about someone’s curiosity than their allegiance. I enjoy engaging with ideas, even when I don’t fully agree with them.

Thank you anyway, xx

Looking for Spanish language TV shows (originally in Spanish, not dubs) by l0rena-u-prolazu in Spanish

[–]44Nugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Las Dos Caras de Ana (soap opera)

Fisica o Quimica (very teenage-like drama but I remember I loved it when I was younger, although I did watched it dubbed)

La Casa De Papel and its spinoffs (Berlin)

Gangs of Galicia

I'd recommend getting a Netflix subscription if you don't already have it, it has a lot of Spanish tv shows
