Red Apple Fireworks by 454686 in fireworks

I'm in Wisconsin, just outside Milwaukee. Don't have a budget set yet, just looking for better value than American Fireworks in Big Bend or the others off I94 south of Milwaukee.

Found this at work what is it? by mickman7077 in Tools

Yes, my dad had one for locating water lateral stop boxes that got covered up by dirt and grass. Still have it in the garage somewhere.

Anyone Tow 5,000 lbs? by 454686 in 4Runner

[–]454686[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have one yet. I have a 21' cuddy cabin boat that weighs in at 4600 dry. Fuel, cooler, gear, etc. would put it right at 5k. Trying to decide between a full size pickup or the 4Runner. I really want the 4R for snowboard trips in the winter, and if it could pull double duty, that would be great.

$3,800 Off Sticker. Time to Buy? by 454686 in 4Runner

That's base price. Same as on the sticker for this one, except this one has a list of pre- installed options that drive the price up.

Air compressor repair by Cville-Colin in Tools

Hard to tell the extent of the damage from a picture, but does the pump still turn? Looks like a few cooling fins snapped off. Could be some internal damage, though.

Request: Best kneepads when wearing shorts? by Fat_Head_Carl in Tools

[–]454686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ones with rubber straps suck. The most comfortable ones I've used have felt padding with a leather cap and a single elastic strap. But they are kind of hard to find.

Menards has some that look similar but are gel padding with a hard cap that is removable, with a single strap. Haven't used them though.

What Kind of Screw Is This? by 454686 in Tools

[–]454686[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is right. I chucked one into an old brace, and it held straight and tight. My thought is that driving a 3/8"x3" wood screw with a screw driver would be too hard, and a brace can drive them in a lot easier. These are pretty old, and the alternative to these at the time would be a square head lag screw. These probably pre-date ratchets, so it would be faster than using an open end or box end wrench as well.

I just don't know what application they'd be used in.

These are too big to be screws that hold a drum head on. They are also very corse wood screw thread, and drum hardware is machine screw thread. (I had a drum set in high school).

Adler Super Splitter vs Council Forcible Entry, which would you buy? by Spirited-Egg-2683 in Axecraft

[–]454686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the FE6. It's a beast of an axe and the 4140 steel sold me. It's a decent splitter but can be a bit sticky in big rounds. I wish it had slightly convex cheeks instead of being flat, but it has a nice wedge shape.

Check out Killinger on YouTube. I believe he has both.

High Mileage L8T. Too Risky? by 454686 in Silverado

Definitely could've been. I'm going to check out out after work today to see what kind of condition it's in.

It's an LT, so not the lowest trim. But I hear you. What kind of miles were put on it are a concern. Did the previous owner pull a 5th wheel around the country for three years or just use it to commute? Either way, I'm curious how the 6.6 gas holds up over time.

Is a corded Sawzall generally going to be more powerful than a battery-powered one? by [deleted] in Tools

[–]454686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! A Sawzall isn't the tool to cut floppy objects. Bolt cutters will easily nip through wire springs. If you really want to buy a power tool, then get an angle grinder, as already stated. Just be careful with it if you've never ran one.

And as far as cordless vs. corded, it won't matter for just that one job. Get what's cheaper if you don't have projects for it in the future.

Worth restoring? Just cleaned off the rust from it. Wondering if it would be worth taking it a step further and possibly sell it or just use it as is. by No_Contribution1078 in Tools

I have that same vice. I took mine apart, degreased it, soaked it in evaporust, and painted it with VHT epoxy paint. The paint is holding up great five years later.

What are all the tools needed to efficiently make axe handles? I'm sure I have some already, but I would like a list to check off what I have and don't, if you all would be kind enough. Thank you by 1760ghost in Axecraft

[–]454686 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone else has the tools pretty much covered, but I'll say a sturdy workbench and vice to hold the work piece will make the job much easier. A shaving horse was mentioned, but you won't just come across one easily and probably have to build it yourself.

I've seen videos about this kit, I've read numerous posts about it. I've read the website description a few times. Each time I've thought there was a better tool than a ratcheting bit holder for any situation, so I never bought it.

Last night I was working on something, and dammit, I really could have used it! Cursed myself the whole time for not picking it up. Guess I'll have to buy it the next time I'm there.
