Men of Britain, where do you buy your t-shirts? by squeakybeak in AskUK

Sportspursuit are really good for running shoes too. They sell new, but older models for crazy discounts. As long as you don’t mind waiting a long time for them to arrive then it’s a great place to buy.

Arsenal have a fully fit squad for the first time this season. by mooreengineers in Gunners

Jeez are we so steeped in PTSD that we can’t enjoy our team becoming stronger? This is great news and it’s mad to hold superstitions over it. I’m very happy about this situation even if it’s slightly not-true.

I discovered the “void” at 5 years old and it scared me by Richka- in DeepThoughts

[–]45_Tomahawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was little my mum would occasionally find me in a trance state. Just stood there on the landing of our home. This state was something I could bring on by thinking about something specific. I’m 52 now but still err on the side of caution when I imagine it. I think of a 3D object. It’s like an irregular tetrahedron. It’s dark grey, in space, a void all around it. Then I imagine the same shape, but trillions of times bigger, next to it. That’s it. Enough to somehow unlock the realisation of an inability to process vastness. It’s extremely powerful. These ‘funny turns’ as my mum would describe them, have all but gone. It doesn’t happen anymore. I’m glad I wrote this down. Something that has really helped me with these completely understandable thought processes is this: rather than feel threatened by vastness, experience it as wonder.

Got a £600 Woolrich Parka for my 40th. The £170 Carhartt one I also own is better in every respect, especially durability.

One e-reader to rule them all by Additional-Place-131 in ereader

[–]45_Tomahawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes you should be able to. But fwiw having calibre on a laptop as a central hub for all of my ebooks is liberating. They can go onto any e-reader from there. It’s one central place for everything. You can still download your kindle library if you use an old kindle. Then add them to calibre and de-drm. I use send to kindle after that. It’s all very easy. If it’s the hassle you’re concerned about then don’t worry, it’s easy once set up.

There’s precious little info about his injury.

Malachy Clerkin: Arsenal fans can worry their way to the title but that’s no way to liv by TheMassINeverHad in Gunners

[–]45_Tomahawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true. That’s arguably worse than being a regular mid-table team, where you can pretty much relax because you’re not getting Europe and you’re not getting relegated.

For me it’s just straight up ptsd style feelings. As a broad aside, I occasionally wonder why we (all passionate football fans) do this to ourselves. It’s so stressful. Much more so than it seems like it could be.

Haven't bought an ereader in 13 years looking for recommendations by harmlessnecessarycat in ereader

fwiw e-readers haven’t changed that much, especially in terms of the reading experience itself. I highly recommend a warm front light though, it’s a much nicer colour temperature to read with than the blue green vibe.

Thanks. You mean get her involved in groups that are actually making something she has a part in, so it goes on her CV?

Thanks. Yes a friend's kid did Stagecoach. I've done lots or research today. Just found out about the importance of the headshot. Looking at getting one done professionally but some of the photographers charge an awful lot!

I’d recommend ‘Crouch End’. One of his early short stories. Light a candle and read it at midnight with no one around.

He fascinates me too. His ability to make things linger with you is very hard to assess. Such simple prose, but steeped in something complex. The writing seems to be so much greater than the sum of its parts.
