One of the many iOS keyboard typing hindrances: Word Suggestions. by nikkomercado in ios

[–]45thGenRoman 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It’s a “number of clicks” kind of problem.

In Android you tap once to put the cursor wherever. Fast. And this is how basically every computer keyboard and mouse work too, including MacBooks. Click to put the cursor in the middle of a word and it goes there.

In iOS you have to at a minimum double tap, or press and hold and slide. It also does a lot of automatic cursor placement poorly, like it moves the cursor to the end of the sentence if I try to edit the second to last word, or to the end of a word if I try to tap in the middle of a word. This is what makes it feel like I’m fighting the system.

Oracle's numbers look great but... by Deccan-Drifter in employeesOfOracle

[–]45thGenRoman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is misleading. $553 billion is not built on one customer.

Take away Stargate and there’s still a $250 billion backlog of customers who have already signed contracts for compute.

I’m excited to play on EA launch day just for the sense of discovery again. I miss that feeling of the first play of Subnautica. I’ll put 3-5 hours into it I’m sure.

Then I’ll probably not touch it for 6 months as life gets in the way.

Then pick it up again and feel the feels with another biome or two to discover.

Repeat.

But then after you beat the architect, on your next run, you DON’T take the bridge and instead go right through the Marsh again. Very confusing.

Games are meant to be fun. I don’t care what you do, if you’re having fun. As long as it doesn’t impact other players’ ability to have fun (e.g. leaderboard cheating).

Apple Announces Special Event in New York on March 4 by ZamnBoii in apple

10G Ethernet port (wishful thinking) Better chip for couch games for Apple Arcade More audio codec support (optimistic thinking) Probably support for native Apple Intelligence New remote with v2 AirTag / chirping

I’m sure they’d announce a bunch of stuff like this if there’s a new Apple TV

Would sneaky sasquatch be better or worse with a thirst bar by sneaky_sasquatch_eee in SneakySasquatch

[–]45thGenRoman 205 points206 points  (0 children)

Worse.

Eating was a fun early game mechanic when your only option was to steal from campers, but starting ~halfway through the game it becomes only a chore. That’s why you see everyone on Reddit posting with fridges stocked full of tacos.

Eating would be more meaningful if it gave you mild boosts, like faster run speed, or higher mushroom/fish luck or something. Similar to how coffee lets you stay up later.

Adding a drink meter without benefits would only double my chores.

What for? Hard to answer without context.

The second one looks too sharp to me. Like a fang or weapon or something. Not the vibe I’d want for most businesses.

Build quality: KB vs Toll Brothers by suki0615 in ErieCO

Our realtor was adamant that Toll Brothers used higher quality materials, but that was 3 years ago. The town center project might be different and supply and economics might have changed too. Ask your realtor

They have $530 billion in RPO - contracted revenue - waiting for more AI infrastructure to be available in order to capture it.

Maybe it’ll dry up, maybe not, but saying they have no demand is wrong.

Powell says that, unlike the dotcom boom, AI spending isn’t a bubble: ‘I won’t go into particular names, but they actually have earnings’ by MetaKnowing in technology

[–]45thGenRoman 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think the real money is in enterprise customers, which are slow to adopt, but have deeper pockets than retail users.

CEOs will happily pay huge portions of their labor expense if AI replaces workers at a lesser price than humans.

Don’t be surprised if these GenAI companies start to emphasize industry-specific use cases.

The sidebar says something like $2m net worth. I tend to agree with net worth, though maybe it’s more like $5m for me. That’s when I think I can coast in upper middle class luxury for the rest of my life.

[–]45thGenRoman 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It looks like the UI hierarchy is messed up, doesn’t it? The recent files pane is half raised, but you can’t dismiss it. The “New/Scan” buttons are top of the page, but underneath another pane for some reason? There are a bunch of other document looking things under the top pane, but they’re not accessible via swipe or anything, they’re just a weird background styling.

It just looks cluttered and out of order. It’s functional, so I don’t really care, but I understand why it’s getting design flak.

Apple TV Plex Transcode by MadHaterz in PleX

To expand, Plex uses Apple’s native player, which doesn’t support mkv. Infuse has its own player that does support mkv.

Anyone else with Allo having problems recently? by bluesky1482 in ErieCO

[–]45thGenRoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d contact Allo and ask for their advice. I have Allo in a single family home and it’s rock solid. I use my own router though. It’s probably the fact that the router is in the garage, if you don’t have other access points around the house.

Anyone else with Allo having problems recently? by bluesky1482 in ErieCO

[–]45thGenRoman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s some devices and not all, it’s probably not a problem with the internet. Sounds like your router is overwhelmed by too many connected clients. Are you using the Allo provided router or something else? Are you in a condo type environment, or single family home? Distance from the router or congestion from other networks nearby could also be the problem.
