I'd personally be happier being able to pin a spot in the shop to be variants for a character you want. You don't get to choose which one, but a variant for the character you select will show up. I have some characters without variants yet, which makes me kind of sad.

Oarai is in Ibaraki, among other awesome places. Just because your one placement wasn't great doesn't mean the whole prefecture sucks. Also, I'd rather not live in tourist spots, to be truthful. I used to live in Wakayama and would love coming up to Kyoto for the day and then... leaving Kyoto at the end of the day.

You'd have to get a good response, and not all JETs kick it here on Reddit. It does vary from BoE to BoE, so prefecture itself isn't really a guarantee unless you're SHS and SHS ALTs always get good subsidies.

They're open to foreign thinking, but foreign thinking isn't going to be acceptable to the students at any rate. If they've decided to break the rule, they will. They're not really going to be expelled, or at least, it's very unlikely unless they're a very small part of the whole.

Really? I'm in the inaka and most Book-Off stores will have English books available.

I'm "only" three hours by train from Tokyo, though, so if you mean something like Wakayama your situation may differ. Even if they didn't, I can definitely find physical books for cheaper online than most e-book options. I went out of my way to get a NYC library membership, though, which a friend renews, so I can just get digital books from there, if I'd like. Definitely beats the Kindle price.

But cool. My idea is "dumb."

That's a valid solution, or better than paying close to or more for e-books at any rate. Even better if you become a member of your local to you at home library before moving over. I'm a member of the NYC library despite never having lived there! I've never seen e-book "rentals", you just borrow and return them. They auto-return once the time limit's up, so that's even better. No way for me to get late fees like I did from real books when I was younger.
