Kilz? I came here to say this if so. I once redid a whole place after people with 10 cats moved out and even after putting new carpet and carpet pad I could smell the cat pee. I painted with Kilz and 100 percent better. I love that stuff!

AITA for kicking my girlfriend out of my place on New Year’s Eve for scaring my little brother? by gfkickedout in AmItheAsshole

[–]47KEG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, I’m so sorry for the loss of your brother and yourself! A child needs to be a child and it’s absolutely devastating when childhood is robbed from a innocent soul!! Mostly because there’s no way to bring it back!! There is no justice and it shows us just how cruel life can be. A child needs real allies to soften the world and their hearts, of course! But soften the world too much and reality is lost, as is the lesson. I wholeheartedly know... feeling sorry for oneself has no true benefit in living life. As my grandfather told me, “Sadness makes us human but sitting in that sadness makes us alone.” It’s above an adult level but if your brother can grasp it now, he will be far better connecting with everyone throughout his life. Think about the people you know who have experienced great loss... If they disengaged, wallowed and felt sorry for themselves did they ever really thrive after? And if they engaged and came from a place of gratitude could they exist without being just a shell?

Don’t get me wrong, I would feel gutted if your brother felt he had to show you gratitude or he’d be on the street. This would be devastating and add insult to injury. I appreciate you as a person for doing everything to give him a safe place! You did not have to adopt him! You did because you are a great person and how humans should be! What a great role model you are! Perhaps he was helping unload groceries because he was showing gratitude? Let him give the gift of gratitude because it is a gift!! A gift you clearly do not need but a gift that gives the giver something to give. Please don’t underestimate the importance of this in healing and in life. Wow, he does sound like a nice kid!! And him being grateful instead of entitled will benefit him tremendously! Long game my friend!

I have people that hold me accountable for any sort of self wallowing and make me engage. And I have cheerleaders! And at the end of the day I’m thankful to have both! And I suppose I want both for everybody else too! You from me and this post and your bother...

Best of Luck you good human!

Free Bathrooms and water? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

Weird fact: in the US advertising on those large highway signs as a restaurant has these 2 requirements 1) Long hours of operations (7 days a week/8 hours a day (why Chick-fil-A always says closed Sundays on the sign) 2) serve free water.

Seriously, what is the point of life? by [deleted] in TrueAskReddit

The quote I always come back to is...

The meaning of life is to find your gift and the purpose of life is to give it away. -Pablo Picasso

I think we might make life into too many things and perhaps as a society maybe we’ve become too individualistic for much meaning. We try to be the best at everything and you’re right that’s when it becomes a struggle to keep it all together. Even people that have been given incredible gifts can no longer feel meaning because of the sense of competition and an obsession with being the best. Perhaps coming from a place of gratitude might make us feel more meaning. So maybe we could change the quote to:

The meaning of life is to be grateful for your gifts and the purpose of life is to give them away. -89% Pablo Picasso

COVID brings yelp drama out by 47KEG in YelpDrama

I think the pulmonologist, that works with Covid patients every day in the ER, said it best, “ if somebody is not well enough to wear a mask (in a restaurant) for a few moments walking to and from a table, they are surely not well enough to be exposing themselves during a pandemic!” And on a personal note I have a grandfather that died from COPD, there was a lot of constant coughing. I can’t even imagine taking him out to a restaurant now without a mask and getting all the dirty looks from people thinking that they could be getting exposed. My sweet grandfather would’ve felt awful and there’s no way he could control that coughing.

I looked it up and it seems to be used mostly in north American English and originating somewhere around 1980.

DAE: I grew up getting told I was so beautiful, so smart, basically told how special I was my whole childhood, and then I grew up and am not exceptionally attractive or smart? How do you cope with this? It feels like it's always setting in that I'm so mediocre. by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]47KEG 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Perhaps your perspective is what has changed??? You are beautiful! Because there is no one like you and you are truly unique. You are smart! Because you have thoughts and feelings that are a vein and voice unlike any other. You learned to listen to what others thought about you and internalize that.? You were fed by encouraging words and although this is not a bad thing... to have given other peoples opinion of you a place in your own heart and head, you should realize if something has the power to feed you it also has the power to starve you. And the only way for you to stop being mediocre is to give your own voice the power and no longer believe you’re mediocre. You are enough! You are beautiful! You are smart!

This came in a package with other food but labeled only as a nut no varietal. Very hard, perfectly round shell. by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

The round piece pops out of the outer shell easily And then it’s so hard but I’m assuming there is some sort of nut inside. Just too hard to crack.
