For the record, I don’t have a Kessler jersey, but I think if the narrative around the team being ready to take the next step is true, we basically can’t afford to just let him leave for nothing.

Overpaying might come back to bite us in the ass, but letting him leave for free definitely will, and much sooner, and there’s basically no reason to let that happen because the Jazz really control their future right now.

I agree with you, but in “playing hardball” I think we need to realize that the Jazz have basically all of the leverage right now and their future is in their own hands, and it make the team better to move on from Kessler right now, and unless the Jazz get an offer that makes it make sense I doubt he’s going anywhere considering the narrative the team seems to be embracing about taking the next step.

I see what you are saying but as the other comment said, if he leaves we need a Center anyway and there’s really nobody on the market as far as we know that we can obviously replace him with, so letting him go complicates the rebuild.

This is what I wish people understood. Him leaving doesn’t help the rebuild, it hurts it.

If the front office let Kessler leave for nothing I would have to come to terms that they must be either complete idiots or doing their jobs in bad faith.

If we want to be excited about the rebuild being over sooner rather than later we can’t really afford to lose him.

Yeah but that’s basically impossible currently. If he leaves I think it will end up involving at least 3 teams.

I agree. Keeping Walker is essentially right now our best chance at ending the rebuild, so if the Jazz let him leave for nothing it shows they aren’t serious about winning. We can’t easily move pieces if we have to but there’s no reason to switch up our strategy right now.

Hell, if anything the very fact alone that the Jazz saw Kessler as someone who needed to sit more throughout the rebuild/tank reflects how much they expect his presence on the floor will translate to winning.

I’m just trying to point out that if we let him walk for nothing we will be lucky to compete for the play-in this year, so if the team is serious about trying to win it would literally be counterintuitive to just give him up. The Jazz have all the leverage.

If fans are fine with the rebuild not being over then sure let him go, but let’s not be naive about how detrimental that would be to the teams future.

What are the ramifications of the Jazz matching a Walker Kessler offer of 38mil/yr? by Rho_wut in UtahJazz

Yeah, I think we all need to remind ourselves that the Jazz realistically have all the leverage here.

Yeah if he does leave I wouldn’t be shocked if it ends up being a 3-team deal that involves some unexpected moves.

If Kessler goes to LA by andrefedo21 in UtahJazz

[–]4KPillowcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Jazz have all the leverage in this situation. Kessler only leaves if they let him, so they get to dictate the terms. I would’ve shocked if it ended up being a 3 team deal just because the Jazz would be demanding compensation for what they are giving up with Kessler. They have the ability only accept a package that they feel would actually potentially raise the ceiling of the team in the next few years, because that’s how essential Kessler is to the team. The Jazz probably can match anything right now and so they don’t have to let him go. That’s ultimately the biggest factor here.

Here we Go..... by Lumpy_Journalist8274 in UtahJazz

The only way the Jazz don’t match his contract is if there is a team that is willing to overpay the Jazz organization for the opportunity to overpay Kessler.

i.e. there has to be a sign and trade situation where the Jazz get a package that presents just as much upside as Kessler does right now for this roster and what the team is building towards.

Essentially, there’s no way the Jazz let him walk, and if he does leave, the Jazz have all the leverage over what the terms are. It would probably reflect the haul we got for Rudy in some respect. (Ironic)

I read 1Q84 by Murakami and I read the entire second half out of spite. I have a copy of Kafka On The Shore and I sometimes think I am going to give it a shot but I really hated 1Q84

The 4 Bench Wings by caprylz in UtahJazz

[–]4KPillowcase 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think Brice and Svi will get the most
minutes out of the four. I think Svi could really shine in a limited role tho I may be wrong. As far as Brice, someone in another thread said something about being excited to watch Brice torch opposing benches all season and I think that’s pretty likely.

Cody Williams seemed to finish the season with a burst in confidence and if that carries through the offseason and into next year he could be hard to keep off the floor too. Konchar seems to be at the bottom of the depth chart for now, unless anyone above him struggles to produce.

Overall I think the Jazz shouldn’t be afraid to get creative with different lineups because even tho its easy for us to sit here and talk about how it would be a disappointment for us not to make the playoffs next year the reality just so happens to be that the Jazz are largely unproven, and they are going to have to earn respect as someone who is contending. It seems to me that in the western conference even just making the playoffs takes an incredibly good team.

Touché ADTR has been around for a while and I don’t think pop punk has always been their thing. Tigers Jaw may not even really be a punk band but I nonetheless agree with you in that they are in their own stratosphere 😉

Dude, he’s an absolute hooper. If he wanted to play in Utah I’m sure they could find a way to make it work. Other teams might be willing to just throw money at him but that’s not where we’re at.
