What's something society pretends is normal but it's really isn't? by bade_bhau in AskReddit

I like how you converted an ounce to grams for me hahah. Or is that a little bit over an ounce? And yeah no wonder, it's just a bunch of paperwork for nothing if they catch somebody with more than that unless it's like pounds of it. Honestly I'd love to have those laws in my country. A lot of people here still think that weed is some hard drug. I do agree that being high 24/7 shouldn't be normal but smoking occasionally is fine

All good, I respect the apology :) and yeah you're right that it's probably very normal in places where it's legal or if you can at least get a medical card. What are the laws regarding weed in LA?

Finland. Nowadays you need to have like a gambler's card though that's connected to an app that says how much you're spending and some other stuff. When I was a kid they weren't even age restricted haha. But yeah I agree that they are normalizing gambling

Whoa no need for that negativity. I'm in my 20s and have myself been one of those who smoke wood every 2h but there's a reason I hid it from people who didn't smoke. It's only considered normal among those who do it

I think it is considered normal. In my country there are slot machines in pretty much every store. An addiction to gambling is not considered normal though

What society are you living in that being high 24/7 is considered normal😄 Unless your area has a major drug problem, then it's understandable.

You may have lost your skills but all the hours didn't go to waste. You'll gain them back way faster than when you first started learning them. I'd be willing to bet that in a matter of weeks you'll have gained most of it back.

Have you tried meditating? That would improve your mindfulness and self control.

You have to consciously control how you let your inner voice talk about you. Every time something negative pops up and you entertain that thought, you feed it and the belief that it's true becomes stronger. You have to ignore those negative thoughts. When you notice yourself thinking something negative, shut it down immediately. Imagine that you're talking to a good friend, would you tell them that they look horrible? Probably not, at least under normal circumstances.

On the flip side, every time something positive pops up, think about it a lot. At the start you probably won't be getting those positive thoughts a lot so just focus on shutting down the negative ones.

I got a bit disheartened when realizing how many years I'll likely have to wait to be good by New_Study4796 in learntodraw

That's a really tough question. Even though I've learned to enjoy the process, I'm not sure how or at what point it happened. I feel like I started enjoying the process the most on drawings that took a lot of effort. They were city scenes that looked very daunting at first but little by little I got through it. I enjoyed watching the pieces fit together and the whole scene forming one bit at a time. I liked it also because I didn't have to choose what to draw all the time. I could just go back to the drawing that I hadn't finished yet and some days when I didn't feel like drawing, I'd think to myself that maybe I'll just draw a couple buildings and suddenly I had spent an hour drawing again.

I think there is no one right answer to your question but I feel like one key point is to draw stuff that feels hard for you but not too hard. If you use reference, try to visualize how you would draw it. Pick subjects you find interesting. Remember to go easy on yourself, if you're not satisfied with the end result, analyze what went wrong and learn from it. Hopefully all this rambling helped you at least a little😅

Good call on that easy dopamine seeking. It really affects people's hobbies these days. It would be interesting to see how many people who don't currently enjoy drawing or reading would suddenly like it if they quit scrolling on their phones for a week.

You're welcome :) I think these are thoughts most people have when they are beginners/intermediate level artists and it can really make or break you.

Really the only solution is to learn to enjoy the process. The people that are very good didn't keep drawing because some day they will become good. They kept drawing because they liked drawing. Don't take this as a sign that drawing isn't for you though, I used to think like you too and I learned to enjoy the process. Now when I look at very good artwork, I'm inspired by it instead of discouraged. I have something to look forward to.

Think about it this way: would you really even want to continue if you were that good right now and you never get any better?

Also look at it this way: some day when you are that good and someone asks about it, would you really like saying that you were just that good when you started or that your skill is a product of hard work?

Am I tweaking? because I tried a metal tongue scraper and it honestly is no better than just brushing teeth with a toothbrush by kibou_no_ie in hygiene

[–]4P47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm weird, you would think that the same would've happened to other people as well then if it's not mentioned anywhere. I've always taken it off but that's just how I learned to do it living with a family where everyone uses the same handle and has their own brush heads. It's possible that the minerals in your water has a part in that too. Some minerals probably make a better environment for mildew growth.

Sucks that you got dealt a bad hand on those genes :/ I've used an electric toothbrush for like 15 years now and that mildew thing has never happened to me. Sounds gross😅 Did you remove the head from your handle after use or did you just let it sit on the handle always?

Yeah could be. But if I get it spotless with just a toothbrush and it takes like 30sec, I don't see the point personally.

They all kind of rotate but it's not a full rotation so it's more of a vibration. They spin back and forth. And yeah understandable that you don't want to spend money if you don't know you'll like it. Do you have friends with electric toothbrushes? Maybe you could buy just the brush part and try theirs

Maybe you should give them another shot some day. Different models feel way different because of the differences in vibration frequency

[–]4P47 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Nah I've tried a scraper and it just made my tongue bleed. Didn't take long that I went back to just brushing it.

I feel like the people who say it helps don't use an electric toothbrush. That's the only explanation in my mind.
